Southern Cooking Done RIGHT at Gail’s Soul Food — Goose Creek, SC
New guy in town looking for some real, signature Southern cooking. I needed a break from all that Texas BBQ and wanted some true soul food — the kind that feels like it came straight from someone’s grandmother’s kitchen. I started with Gail’s Soul Food, and let me tell you… I have zero regrets. Every bite was worth it.
I showed up around 4:45 PM, just 15 minutes before closing. As soon as I walked in, the lady at the counter hit me with:
“We ain’t frying nothing 10 minutes before we close.”
No problem at all, ma’am — that line alone told me I was in the right place. I simply asked, “Alright then… what can I order?”
I went with the smothered pork chops with rice and gravy, collard greens, green beans, and cabbage. BAM!
Everything — and I mean everything — was excellent.
The pork chops were tender, well-seasoned, with a nice touch of garlic and smothered perfectly in gravy. The collards were real collards, not canned (unlike too many places in Texas), and seasoned just right. The cabbage was flavorful, and the green beans were on point too. I also order a turkey wing smothered in gravy and it was also very tasty.
The restaurant itself was clean, well-decorated, and welcoming.
Even though they were about to close, the staff remained friendly, patient, and committed to giving me great service. That says a lot about their pride and professionalism.
I truly enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, and the customer service. I’ll definitely be back to try a few more menu items before I head back to Texas.

We were in the mood for some good ole southern cookin’ and let me tell y’all, Gail did not disappoint! I ordered the fried chicken plate with collards and macaroni and cheese. I ordered an extra side of rice with gravy and corn bread because I wanted to try a little bit of everything. This food is soul rectifying, stick to your ribs, keep you warm on a cold day…take you to church kind of meal. I moved my food from the To-go box to a plate because the To-go box was SO heavy I couldn’t hold it. This is just a half portion of everything in this photo. Gail’s is real BANG for your buck and I will be returning!

Soooo good! I had the fried pork chop, greens and yams. My husband had the pork chops with gravy, Mac n cheese, greens, the white rice and gravy. The key lime pound cake! And we had the spring rolls with collard greens, turkey and cabbage in it. Our first time having those, really good! We met the owner who was cooking. Nice guy. The next time we’re in in SC, we will definitely stop by Gail’s’ Soul Food again!

Nice restaurant. Good soul food. They forgot my cornbread though and I really wanted it to. I didn’t realize it until I had already gotten home in Summerville. That and my rice was a little mushy were my only two complaints.

THE ABSOLUTE BEST SOUL FOOD! I came in a few days before Christmas and had the turkey wing, Mac and cheese, collard greens, white rice and gravy, red velvet cake and sweet tea. Everything was so good I had to come back on Christmas Eve! You can definitely tell their food is made with love. You can taste it in every bite! The best drive I ever made from Summerville for some food. Service was and is amazing. Very comforting atmosphere. You’ll only regret not going so what you waiting on lol

After ordering twice now, I can see why this is the case. This is just soul food done right. Not sure what else to say.
The baked chicken and candies yams are my favorite.
I just tried the rolls and those were crispy and delicious. Don’t miss out if you are wanting an authentic and delicious experience for your taste buds and your soul.

Gail’s soul food is literally the best food I’ve had me and my girlfriend door dashed and we was like hmmm let’s try this place and when I tell you we was so happy we chose this soul food restaurant Ms Gail and whoever is in that kitchen can cook. This reminded us of our moms and grandmas cooking it brought back memories for us as we ate. We will definitely come in next time because by the taste of the food I know the atmosphere is the same it’s definitely a vibe ❤️

The food has been so good in the past, but I ordered delivery tonight and after 90 min and two drivers tapped out, the food was STILL not ready. Sorry but I’m canceling and will NOT order nor refer any of my friends again. Good Luck for you. And for good measure, ordered the 2 pork chop meal….looks great doesn’t it!
Well the next day they made it good by remaking the order. I got to enjoy the food in the end. Everyone has a bad day, I hope it’s not a trend. I’ll try them again, so we will see.

I decided to DoorDash the fried chicken plate after I kept seeing this place pop up on door dash. I got two pieces of chicken with yams and collard greens. I also got my son a side of mac and cheese. The chicken was probably the worst chicken I’ve ever had. It smelled so burnt and terrible. I tried a few bites and couldn’t eat the rest. It looked and smelled like it was cooked in old grease or burnt grease. The yams had a good taste but were undercooked. The collards were good, and my son said he didn’t like the mac and cheese. After about 4 hours of eating, I got extremely sick and was up all night in the bathroom. Very poor experience.

What happened to the original owner…cook? The food taste nothing like it did when the place originally opened. The food is either too sweet or two salty. The rice is almost never cooked fully through. The chicken taste like it was made fast. Nothing like the original whole fried chicken wings and even then!! Those don’t taste the sams. I am genuinely disappointed the quality has dropped significantly. I keep trying it, hoping that taste and quality comes back. I am always let down.
