Historic for a reason. This is the location to be if you love fresh seafood, top notch service and a relaxing atmosphere GULF FRONT VIEWS! We started with chargrilled oysters and couldn’t get enough. Then we ordered Pecan crusted Mahi Mahi, perfectly cooked, buttery and nutty complimenting the delicate flavor of the flaky white fish. We also had seared Ahi tuna. That was pefectly rare to order and melted in your mouth like butter. All the sides were delicious on there own but brought our dinner over the top. The wine and cocktail menu is extensive and willsuit any palate. I couldn’t resist the dessert menu and ordered the Pecan Ball. My husband said he didn’t want dessert but he couldn’t stand watching me enjoy the sundae sized deliciousness. And once we had the 1st bite we couldn’t stop. The decor is amazing if you are into Texas history or no nothing at all about it you will be amazedwith the photography and historical time lines displayed. What a fantasticly maintained nod to the heritage of the Gulf Life.

1/3/2026: Very pleased with our dining experience. Victor was a wonderful waiter. The portions are large enough to split. The decor is steeped with history of the Gaido family. The restaurant was clean. The linen tablecloths make it feel even more fancy. We were dressed in business casual attire, but others came in wearing shorts. As we are having a very warm “winter” here in the south, I think shorts and flipflops work anywhere, especially a beachside restaurant.
My friend and I split the crab avocado appetizer and then we split the grilled shrimp entree. Everything was wonderful! We had a party of 4 in our group. In all my travels to Galveston, I cannot believe I have never been to Gaido’s. What a treat!
It’s funny.. I’ve been to their gift shop located in the restaurant but this was first time eating at said restaurant. Kind of backwards. Ha! The gift shop is really nice, so don’t forget to stop in there after or before dining.

Great place for a special dinner. Melissa treated us very well and knowledgeable about the menu…. So inquire away. Nice atmosphere. Quiet enough to talk and ambience. We had the crab avocado salad appetizer. I, of course, had the famous fried dinner and my wife had the red snapper Michael burre blanc. Very nice place on the coast. We also had dessert. We recommend the bread pudding with black coffee & “two chocolate mousse”. You will enjoy it. Thank you for serving us Melissa.

It was a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, and the food was not only absolutely delicious but also beautifully presented. It is not a cheap place, but the overall experience is truly worth it. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a special dining experience.

Where to begin?
First off, our waiter Alex was amazing! The way he explained everything was on point! Next would have to be. . .
The bread! Oh the soft, warm delicious bread!
The jumbo crab cake was so delicious that I will probably never make my own crab cakes again (out of shame).
The homemade honey dressing on my salad, was sooo good!
The pecan crusted snapper and pasta pesto were heavenly!
And don’t get me started on how amazing the pecan pie was!
This entire meal was chef’s kiss! Hands down this was the best anniversary meal we’ve ever had (and we’ve had a few).

Trey, our waiter, was very attentive and warm throughout the meal. The complimentary bread and olive oil was delicious. The special today was redfish with a crab topping and lemon butter sauce. We went with that along with the parmesan-encrusted red snapper for the entrees. The size of the redfish was slightly disappointing for the price ($52).
Each entree came with only one side. Two of the sides offered (waffle fries and parmesan tomatoes) were odd. It would have been nice to have some more options. However, the fish itself was very good quality — soft, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The lemon butter sauce complemented the fish well and made a rather simple preparation shine.

Gaido’s in Galveston is truly a timeless Texas gem. My family dinner there was nothing short of exceptional. The staff was warm, attentive, and clearly proud of the restaurant’s deep history. Their service struck the perfect balance between professionalism and personal on checking on our comfort with food, taste, needs etc – making the entire evening feel effortlessly special.
The food lived up to every bit of the restaurant’s reputation. Each dish came out beautifully plated, and it was evident that quality ingredients and classic technique are at the heart of Gaido’s.
Overall, Gaido’s offers an experience that blends history, flavor, and top-notch service in a way few restaurants still can. Whether it’s a special occasion or just a night out by the sea during your vacation – it’s a Galveston institution that never disappoints.

Loved the history of the restaurant. It was very easy to make a last minute online reservation and the food was incredible.
I had the Seafood Pasta and my husband had the Bacon Shrimp. The appetizers amazing! We tried the Baked Oysters and the crab artichoke dip. The complimentary bread and dip was so delicious . I also tried a few of the mixed drinks and they were good, not too weak and not too strong. At first glance it didn’t look like there was enough parking but they have an entire parking lot exclusively for the restaurant around the side. We enjoyed the beach front view, very romantic.
Staff was always attentive even though they were busy, they made it a point to go around every table multiple times. I am very observant so I appreciated that, nothing worse than having to wave down a waiter.
We spent roughly $180.00 which included 2 appetizers, 2 entrees and 4 adult beverages.
Overall exceptional experience. Thank you we will definitely be back.

Great spot in Galveston, TX! Our waitress was Chelsea, and she was fantastic. She knew the menu and was very well informed with various food allergies and what was safe to eat for those, especially with Gluten allergy. She was also just a very friendly person. The peach tea cocktail was so good and the stuff shrimp with crab was dynamite! Great experience over all!

We had planned to eat elsewhere for dinner but glad we came across the recommendation to eat at Gaido’s on reddit because we would’ve missed out on the BEST dinner and BEST service with Dwayne. We were sat early for our reservation which is always fantastic. Dwayne was very quick to great our table and let me tell you, this man is knowledgeable about every entree they serve, their operations, what is and isn’t available due to what’s in season, etc. They bring out bread that is baked in house and it is UNREAL! I ordered the shrimp and grits and it was the best shrimp and grits I believe I’ve ever had, so amazing! My husband ordered the crab stuffed shrimp and asparagus and we nearly passed out because it was that good. We also got a side order of the shrimp stuffing balls—think hushpuppies stuffed with shrimp. They were fantastic! Creme Brulee for dessert was also great. Portions were perfect, we didn’t finish anything. Price was honestly under what we expected and spent less than $90 for 2 entrees, side order of stuffing balls, and dessert. Environment was fantastic and I so much to look at in there! We can’t wait to come back and hopefully get Dwayne!
Management, if you see this, please let Dwayne know he provided top tier experience and really made our dining experience exceptional.
