Gaby is the chef and owner of this outstanding French bakery. You can honestly taste the passion and skill in every item he makes. Gaby is not only friendly and welcoming, but also incredibly knowledgeable about his food, ingredients, and where it all comes from. Every single item I tried was delicious, but when I say the crème brûlée was on another level, I mean it — hands down, without question, the best I’ve ever had! Gaby mentioned he spent a couple of years perfecting the recipe, and it absolutely 100% shows. If you haven’t tried Gaby’s Gourmandise (inside the Downtown Market), you’re missing out — this is a place (and a chef) that you will never forget!

Gaby and his staff were so warm and kind. I didn’t even have to ring the bell before someone came over and assisted me. The freshness and care were felt immediately as his staff gave their favorite suggestions and served me. Crème brûlée torched fresh?? Wow! And the strawberry tart.. wow. I’ll be back!

I asked my husband to find a French fruit tart for my birthday and Gaby did an amazing job! He was happy to take on a custom order and the tart was phenomenal! Gaby went above and beyond, sourcing fresh fruit and giving serving instructions. I can’t say enough good things about Gaby and his work. Thank you so much for making my birthday special!!!

This carrot cake is my most favorite cake I ever eaten in GR!! Yummy!!

The cream on the carrot cake harmonizes well with the taste of the cake itself. The cream, with its well-balanced cinnamon and sour notes, complements the nutty goodness of the carrots and nuts within the cake. The subtle sweetness of the cream adds to its luxurious feel. The crunchy texture of the nuts and carrots in the cake pairs nicely with the moist cake.
The puff pastry, too, is delightful, with its chewy bread filled with a cream that offers a subtle sweetness and rich flavor.

I haven’t had a canelé since I visited Bordeaux. The pastry was nostalgic and caramelized to perfection. I came in Jan 24th at around 6pm and had the most lovely interaction. The employee was friendly, personable, and knowledgeable about the products allergen information/cross contamination mitigation practices. As someone with a peanut allergy, I am generally unable to eat from bakeries, so this was an extra special treat!

Gaby and his team did an AMAZING job catering the desserts for our wedding! We ordered more than thought we would need but they were so delicious that they were gone by the end of our reception. Our guests talked about how amazing the desserts were all night! Everything we ordered was fresh and beautiful with our personal favorite being the fruit tarts. They used fresh in season fruits and could not have asked for a better or prettier dessert table! Thanks Gaby!

Every city in every state I visit I google local bakeries. Specifically my favorite sweet treat, macarons.Including my home city of Kalamazoo. While visiting my son at GVSU on Thursday my Google maps led me to Gabys. Best Bakery from the treats offered, to having All my favorites and most of all the knowledge, kindness and time explaining everything to me shortly before closing. I wish I had got their name. Visited around 6pm on January 8. To my complete pallet surprise, my favorite was the vanilla cupcake! I haven’t had the apple almond tartlette yet so that could change! This will be first stop when I visit my son in February.

Everything is delicious. I dream about the cream puffs. Every flavor doesn’t disappoint but the cranberry is my favorite! Everyone that works there is so kind and goes out of their way to ensure you have a great experience.

Chef Jean-Gabriel was an absolute pleasure to work with. He was one of the only pastry vendors who was willing to work with us on our wedding date (the day after Thanksgiving), and we are extremely happy he did! His desserts were excellent, very light and tasty. We did a tasting at the shop a few months before the wedding and we’re pleasantly surprised with how delicious everything was.
(some desserts pictured were made by family friends as well)

What a hidden gem. For true french pastries. Never would of found this place on my own. One look at the display case and the perfectly cleaned kitchen with hand written recipes scattered about and you know it’s a authentic pastry kitchen. Everything is unique and he makes pastries most would consider difficult and then he takes the ones that should be simple ( cream puff ) and turns it into something that words can’t describe just over flowing with rich cream vanilla beans specks through-out. Truly gratefully I happened to Come across this place today.
