We had the ribs plate, brisket plate and brisket sandwich with gumbo side. On the plates, a tiny portion cup of BBQ sauce accompanies the included Mac and cheese and choice of slaw, fries or beans.
The slaw was fresh, crunchy and delicious! Mac was made with real cheese and quite tasty despite needing salt, pepper and hot sauce. The ribs were smoky and flavorful. Brisket was a bit on the dry side but not too fatty. The sandwich had a nice toasted bun.
No ice with waters, and no iced tea option which was surprising. Pass on the gumbo…its nothing like southern gumbo so not worth the small extra charge.
The room is small, with a small bar area with what looks like 4 taps. A unisex bathroom is clean but water pressure begs for a plumber’s attention. Good prices for the portions.
I ordered:
Brisket: It was thin and a small serving. Which is common of these kinds of places. But it was a bit bland and dry. I ate all of it because it was still smoked meat and that was good by itself. But it wasn’t amazing.
Mac and cheese: it was again, fine. It tasted like Mac and cheese. Nothing special about it. But I ate all of it because it was noodles and cheese. That’s good by itself again.
Potato salad: PERSONALLY I didn’t like the potato salad. It was kinda dry and I disliked the flavors in it. I think there was celery and maybe some dill? I couldn’t really tell. I wasn’t a fan. But other people might like it
Sweet BBQ sauce: I’m sorry I can’t remember the name. The waiter recommended it to me. I really liked this sauce. I think that where this place might shine is in its sauces. But I only got the one taste so who knows.
Additionally, there was no cornbread on the menu and that made me sad.
The price of the meal came out to 20.17. kinda spendy, but to be expected of BBQ. I just wish it had been overall better. But it was still a fine meal.
I had the brisket sandwich combo (chose a side of macaroni and cheese) and inhaled it! So quickly I forgot to get a picture of it. ♂️
Guess I have to go back!
