when I first got to Portland in 2011 there were not a lot of outstanding Italian restaurants, but over the years several exceptional Italian eateries has sprouted up in town and I couldn’t be happier about it. Gabbiano’s definitely belongs on the short list of the best of them. Wow, our dinner and overall experience last night was incredible. The service was impeccable, the cocktails superb (Kellen is a seasoned veteran of the Portland bar and restaurant scene so we were so excited to see him behind the bar tonight), and the food was just unbelievably good! The pork chop was mouth watering and perfectly prepared with juicy peaches, the chicken parm amazing and massive, the salads (Caesar and a seasonal one with watermelon radishes) were perfectly balanced, the squid ink pasta with scallops and cherry tomatoes was delightful, and the panna cotta with corn and cherry syrup was hands down the best dessert I’ve had this year (we had the tiramisu too and it’s by far the best tiramisu in town). I’ll be dreaming of this place until I get back there.

Made it just in time before their last seating. Service was perfect and my friend and I just got snacks. The meatballs were flavorful (mind a little over), and the mozz sticks were just as naughty as I expected. Will go back to try more things soon.

The ambiance is great and the service was really good and friendly. But overall the food was really underwhelming. Most of the dishes lacked the bold flavors you’d expect from Italian-American and almost all of them were well under-seasoned. This ranges from the focaccia starter to the sauce or “gravy,” the one thing you’d expect to be perfect. Again, it’s cool and fun, but the food just doesn’t match the vibe.

When I say the pasta was sooooooo fresh…the focaccia was to die for…nice intimate setting for a restaurant…the chef is cool af …my ONLY gripe is that it’s walk in only…if you love authentic Italian, I highly recommend this place…and if you get there and have an hour wait, don’t leave the area…just go across the street to Toyshop Ramen and hang out in the mean time…they have the same owner…thank me later

Food and service was mid. As a person of color absolutely did not feel comfortable and was rushed despite being told that all dishes would be coming out one at a time given the small kitchen. The focaccia was ok and the oil and vinegar provided were not seasoned. Standouts were the tomato sauce and the arugula salad. If you have to get Italian anywhere in Portland I would recommend Luce’s. Staff was more welcoming and knowledgeable there. The dishes felt more Italian American than Italian and there were only two pasta dishes on the menu. Although the branzino was advertised as a shared dish, the one we got for three people looked like a single serving. Over all my group left underwhelmed.

Decided to have dinner for my 30th birthday here last night and we are so glad we did! Great cozy ambiance in a great neighborhood off killingsworth. The staff was very kind and had a system in place in case there was a wait. The drinks were nuts! So good. We had a love punch and an old fashioned. When we got to the table we were explained how to order everything and it was one of the best dinners we have had in a long time. We will definitely be back! Thank you.

Strong drinks, tasty pasta, lovely staff, and good atmosphere. Price is worth it but it is spendy. Cant remember the name of the pasta I had because it’s off the menu now–1 week later!!–but it was delicious and indescribable

Gabbianos popped up on PDXEater and has only been around for the past 5 weeks, so, we needed to try it out. They are new to the NE as this location used to be occupied by Ichiza Kitchen. Nice ambiance inside with a relaxing yet upscale vibe. They require proof of vaccination to dine in. The indoor seating space is a bit limited and you are going to share tables with other diners but we didn’t mind. We chose to sit up at the bar where all the action goes down.
