Whereas some diners are in the style of Eat ‘n Park, Gab & Eat is old school Isaly’s. Staff was friendly snd helpful. Everyone seemed to know everyone else with lots of “goodbyes” being shouted as folks were leaving. Sesting is tight, booths aren’t the most comfortable, and the door that constantly opened kept the place a little colder than one would like on the winter day of our visit. But the lobster bisque tasted like lobster bisque (though there was no lobster too be found), and the club sandwiches were tasty as well as a good value. I like this place and will return.

Gab & Eat
GOOD: Wonderful local, Carnegie business. A fun diner vibe with amazing breakfast, vibrant staff and fair prices
BAD: Nothing much, they close early (230ish) and pot coffee is on the expense side (2.99) But they do grind their beans and I enjoyed a cup to go.
Gab & Eat is right up my alley. I love diners, especially quirky places with top notch breakfast. Gab & Eat is all that and more. The staff clearly enjoys their jobs and the locals. If you sit at the counter you get to watch the skilled cooking action.
As a Carnegie visitor, I went 2x – a tell right there. Day one was a great omelet, day 2 a superb bagel sandwich. My servers were great and friendly. If you’re in the neighborhood, starting your day here is a wise move.

My mom used to go here everyday when I was younger. 2005-2006 she loved it there. The staff knew her by name along with alot of the other customers. Always a friendly, family like environment. I recently stopped here with my son…thinking it would be nice for old time sake, since my mother had passed years ago. I figured it would be nice to revisit old memories. As I walked in we were greeted right away. Definitely the same comfortable environment I remember from all those years ago. The food was delicious and proportions were generous. The staff all with smiles on their faces and calling most of the customers by name! I am so glad this place is still around!! Definitely will recommend to anyone.

The place is a real “Joint”…love the old school vibe & our friendly, efficient servers have all had just the right amount of sass…and the food???… Fuhgeddaboudit!!…the local Italian bread they grill & try to pass off as toast makes my knees buckle…I always get the 1/2 mixed grill(don’t know who can handle the Large) as is with both sweet & hot homemade sausage , IUKYK
BTW the first 2X I went there(months apart, I live in Canada) the same couple were sitting next to me…yeah that kind of place…

Been eating here since 2010. Great grilled food….. breakfast and lunch only. Unique daily hours and op tempo. Can be a long line to get a seat on the weekends. Used the bathroom for the first time on this visit, and man! It needs a deep clean.

Stopped in for breakfast on a Saturday. Lively restaurant with tons of regular customers. Friendly staff. Huge portions of great homemade food. Pictured is a 1/2 portion mixed grill. Yes, 1/2 portion. Hot and sweet sausage with eggs, potatoes, peppers and onions. Closed Sunday and Monday.

Fantastic. Don’t be in a rush, just drink a pot of coffee and soak in the vibe. #1 reason to visit Pittsburgh. Always good – but make sure to opt for Italian Bread.

If patience is a virtue then short order cooking is an art and this place certainly knows just how to put on a great show. Very attentive and thorough staff. The cook is the Ring Master whilst the ladies run circles collecting the orders keeping the kitchen churning….. I love me a simple menu and this place has it. Food comes out hot and ready as it should…. Definitely’d walk a mile to grab a bite and watch the show…
