Classic American Diner, last time I was here I was 15, 14, 13 years old, sometime around then.
Known for its bologna sandwich. Hot spot destination in the ’60s and ’70s, for athletes and celebrities stopping in..
Still great service. Amazing bologna sandwich, its what its known for!!!!
One of a kind wouldn’t trade this for world, started in 1962
Must visit when in central Ohio!!

We came, we sat, we ate the bologna!

And yes—it was dee-licious. The service, however, could’ve used a little more of that famous small-town charm. We decided to split one of their legendary sandwiches so we’d have room to sample a variety of the fried sides (because why choose just one?).

Unfortunately, we missed out on dessert—their famous pie was sold out by the time we arrived. Our timing wasn’t great; we walked in right after what could only be described as a full-on motorcycle gang lunch rush. Every server in the place seemed to be catching their breath and commiserating about how wild things had just been—and how there was no pie left to show for it.

As I listened, I couldn’t help but smile. Running out of food usually means you’ve had a really good day in the restaurant world, right?

Despite the chaos, it was still a fun stop. We love places like this—quirky, memorable, and full of character. Even without the pie, it was worth the visit!

Shared a great meal with my dad there last night. We’ve been here many, many times and each time we go it’s a fresh reminder of how GREAT their food is! Let alone those mile high pies they bake that take a couple of days to eat… Also – love that they employ the local kids and give them a shot at food service and just being out there in the work world. HAPPY to write you a great review! Well Deserved!

I ordered takeout, and honestly, it didn’t travel well. The apple pie felt undercooked in the center, and the fries were soggy—almost like they never got crispy to begin with. It’s a bummer because the flavors were there, but the texture really suffered once it got home. I imagine things might be better if you eat in, but as far as takeout goes, I’d probably pass on the fries and pie next time. Still, not a total loss—some things were fine—but definitely needs a little work for carryout orders.

Drove well over 30 miles to get here. Did our Internet research to make sure they were open. Yep, supposed to be until 10pm. They were not at 9:05pm on a Tuesday. Bartender was playing on her phone in a mostly dark bar area, behind a locked door. Did she just not feel like being open anymore?? We came for the famous pie and got NONE!

What a treasure! Old-school bar with a family atmosphere. The food is diner-style, but the bologna and pies are a must-try.

Afternoon ride to this Ohio landmark in the small town of Waldo, just off US 23, south of Marion, OH. If you’ve not heard of it, it’s really a dive bar/diner with a true following for those who enjoy a grilled bologna sandwich.

It wouldn’t be a trip is I didn’t order the G&R bologna sandwich with cheese, onion and sweet pickle slices. Ice tea to chase it down, along with onion rings, and a healthy slice of red raspberry pie.

Service was fine and they did check on me a few times for refills. It was a busier Monday lunch time with even the local sheriff deputies stopping by for a bite. A reminder to those who have never been, cash only, but there is an ATM if needed. Nice little afternoon trip.

My boyfriend and I stopped in for their famous fried bologna sandwiches. ( I have never tried one) The staff were so nice, the bar was clean, and the bathroom was clean. The atmosphere was very laid back and the prices for the food was pretty good. The fried bologna was also amazing!!

I have driven past Waldo for years and years on 23, and have never had occasion to stop. So when a business meeting in Delaware was breaking up and someone mentioned G&R – I was up for the trip. I’ve always heard about the fried bologna sandwich and the pies. I like both, and I was up for the adventure. Also, I am a big fan of this type of establishment as well. So it is with great disappointment that I write this particular review.

First I need to point out that this is a cash only place, and I made a special stop at the ATM so I was prepared. It was a busy lunch crowd and we were to be seated by the staff. We did not pick the table, nor could we have guessed the amount of discomfort we would experience when the place a 3-top next to us that cut into the route to additional tables and the restroom. We had other patrons and waitstaff constantly brushing by with guts and butts dragging on our table. One surly server acted like it was our fault that it was difficult to get thru, and I was ready to leave by the time our food arrived. If the staff knows the flow of the floor space they should have done better placement of the adjoining tables.

My sandwich as fine. Not up to the hype, but good. The butterscotch pie however was an abomination. I took two bites. I offered tablemates bites to confirm I wasn’t crazy. I left 3/4 of a piece of pie uneaten. And I never pass up a dessert. The texture was extremely off-putting. The flavor was not good. And it was an odd color for butterscotch. Had I seen the state of the pie I would have ordered something else. That pie should not be offered. I have since learned that it is not the same pies of the acclaim. That pie maker/baker is no longer there.

I guess I should have made time to stop by years ago.
