We visited Fusion Food Pakistani Restaurant on a Saturday early afternoon for their lunch buffet, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience. The food was amazing—authentic, traditional Pakistani fare, and honestly far better than what I remember from a few years ago when they were at a different location. This new location (the former Darna restaurant) is spacious and comfortable, which made the experience even better.
We sampled most of the buffet, and every single dish stood out on its own. The chicken tandoori was flavorful and perfectly cooked, the chicken karahi was rich and well-spiced, and the nihari and beef paya were deeply satisfying and authentic. The halwa puri was a real highlight, especially since they served us fresh, hot puris directly at the table, along with fresh butter naan, which was soft, hot, and delicious. The chole, salad, and other dishes rounded out the buffet nicely.
Service was excellent—attentive, friendly, and efficient—and the price was very reasonable at around $20 per person. I was genuinely pleasantly surprised by how much they’ve improved. The flavors were bold, balanced, and truly memorable.
I can confidently say this is probably the best-tasting Pakistani food in San Antonio, and the quality easily compares to many well-known Pakistani restaurants in Houston. Strongly recommended for anyone craving authentic, delicious Pakistani cuisine.
I had high expectations after reading many positive reviews, especially for service. Unfortunately, my experience didn’t match that at all. ☹️
I specifically came for Khowsay (Khow Suey) and asked multiple times about what toppings it included. The staff member handling everything (cashier, server, busser) couldn’t clearly explain the dish and seemed irritated by basic questions. Details like toppings and even the type of pasta used (it was fettuccine, not spaghetti) were never clearly communicated.
Despite the dining room being almost empty, the food took about 35 minutes to arrive. The water station was empty, cups and utensils were sticky, and I never received water until after I had finished eating despite pointing it out early on.
While the Khowsay looked good, the taste was disappointing and extremely under-seasoned. I had passed on other menu items for this dish, which added to the frustration.
It felt like the restaurant was understaffed and poorly managed, even on a quiet Tuesday evening. Maybe this was an off night, but given the service, cleanliness issues, and food quality, I was genuinely disappointed and confused by the glowing reviews. How can they get such high ratings for the food and service I experienced?
One positive note: the staff agreed to give my untouched leftovers to someone in need, which I appreciated. Thankfully no food went to waste.
I may consider trying them again during a buffet service, but this visit was not a good first impression.
We ordered butter & plain Naan ( wt a soft. Fluffy, clean Naan it was )
Other one we ordered was Goat Biryani ( awesome balance of spices , with soft and tender goat pieces served with fresh salat and mint chutni )
Goat karai was good too. And we had mango lasi for today. Everything was balanced and perfect.
The best thing we ordered was HALEEM – perfect taste with smooth texture.
Chapli kabab tasted very well.
And the chai iawesome. e.
Looking forward to try more of your menu options for upcoming days.
Beyond the cuisine, the experience was elevated by the warm, attentive service and an atmosphere that felt both welcoming and impressive. If you’re craving real Pakistani food done right, this place is a must-visit.
I highly recommend the following dishes at a minimum: khadi khousa, tawa fish, tawa kabob. I get all of those every time I’m here.
Trust me! I’m brown and grew up eating food like this. Do it!!
For a buffet that cost us $70+ for two people (no drinks or even water), they also added an 18% service charge, yet there was no actual service. Dirty plates kept piling up on our table and no one came to clear them, even with a table of 10+ people barely having space for fresh plates.
The plates and cutlery were not clean and even the flooring felt sticky, which raises hygiene concerns. If the customer area is this unhygienic, it makes you wonder what’s happening in the kitchen. If they’re charging premium prices and service fees, they really need to improve the service and cleanliness.
