Hello! Writing this review as I dine currently. It’s November 15th 2023 at around 2 PM. Saw this restaurant as I was walking around Gervais. This is my first time eating here and these are my thoughts:

First impression: outside, it has this very nice vibe to it, like a niche, hole-in-the-wall restaurant that would have food that rocks. Come inside and it’s got a nicer, quieter almost mature vibe. It fits the Japanese theming of the restaurant and the aesthetic is beautiful. Very clean too, automatic plus.

I am greeted and asked if I want to dine-in, I said yes. It’s a self seating restaurant and there was no wait before I was served. I was offered water and immediately given a menu. The menu is very sleak, has a nice design, and very easy to read and navigate. Visually appealing food as well with plenty of options.

I ordered chicken ramen, altered to be spicy. Already a good sign that it’s customizable! I also ordered the pork buns. Waitress was very polite and my food came out almost instantly.

The ramen was BEAUTIFULLY arranged and already it looked delicious. The pork buns also looked delicious. Ramen was not too spicy but had a good enough kick that made it taste like spice and not just heat. Waitress offered to bring out more chili oil if I wanted to increase the spice, very neat! The chicken in the ramen was so good. It was super flavourful on its own yet it didn’t overpower the ramen. The chicken ramen also had nori, egg, fishcakes, and bamboo shoots. All added to the dish. Absolutely recommend, and it makes me want to try the other ramen options.

The pork buns are also extremely good. The presentation on them was incredibly impressive. Upon my first bite, it was full of taste. It was shocking just how GOOD a pork bun could be! Sometimes they are lacking a bit at other places I’ve been but I was very impressed with these.

Good portion sizes too. If you’re like me and have a big appetite, you’ll definitely enjoy a starter and a main dish. It’s enough food that you’ll be full yet satisfied. The prices are fair. It’s a little bit more on the expensive side, but it’s completely understandable since this IS better quality food and it’s in downtown Columbia. Nothing absurd or out of place compared to other places nearby.

If you are a student, which I am, you get a 10% discount if you bring in your student ID. The waitress made me aware of this, even though there is a sign outside about it as well. I always appreciate when a server informs you of discounts! I got the check, and it was exactly 23.99. Since tax is 10%, my discount cancelled it out. They also give you a stamp card, where your 11th bowl of ramen is free. How cool! Also I received a piece of Japanese hard candy, guava flavoured.

You can also take items to-go, which I also did.

Overall, a wonderful experience. I can’t even think of any constructive criticism! Very content with my visit and I will absolutely be back. Please check this place out! Whether you enjoy all types of cuisine, you’re a picky eater, or a Japanese food enjoyer (like me), you’ll find something to enjoy here! Thank you for the great time!

Oh ho ho! What a surprise, actual authentic Japanese food in the heart of Columbia, just across the street from the Statehouse! This is a truly hidden gem (hopefully not hidden too much longer!). This place truly surprised me; when I last ate there, I could not help but ask where the ingredients came from, because coming from the Asian markets around, I have no idea where such ingredients would have come from especially for my Eel donburi! Only to find out this is a franchise from a company FROM Japan! The ingredients being sourced from there as well! What a fantastic surprise!

Coming from a Vietnamese background, I typically dislike ramen (even authentic ramens in the heart of Philly/NYC) in favor of other noodle soups more familiar to my culture, however, this was a pleasant surprise! The miso ramen’s broth was so flavorful and the flavors meshed together to create what was to be, just right. The donburi came in a cute little container, vegetables seemed so fresh!

Lastly, the service was nothing to complain of. The two hosts were very helpful and friendly to explain their menu and any questions I had for their food! Take a trip here! And try to avoid the other ramen restaurant around the corner… none of my Asian friends like that one haha

It’s good and has vegetarian options. Get the spicy chilli sauce on the side and that elevates the taste of ramen. Not so impressed with the vegetables that by default comes in the vegetarian option. You have to pay to add extra and you cannot even substitute. The chicken katsu was good.

Came for lunch before continuing the road trip during Christmas Day. It opens 7 days a week so it’d be a good stop for anyone wants to keep stomach warm
I got takoyaki as appertizer and tonkatsu ramen. The ramen unfortunately lacked of flavor and too much noodles compared to the amount of meat. I recommend beef ramen, which was more flavorful, or spicy miso ramen.
Quick service, good lunch!

The takoyaki and tempura ice cream was yummy.
Can’t say I fancied the ramen or katsudon, but everyone has different tastes.

I think I’ll try more appetizers the next time I come by; they seem promising.
Great service and atmosphere inside the restaurant.

Had a great experience at the grand opening of Fuji Ramen. The food was hot and delicious, the staff was very friendly, and we were served quickly. The lady who was our host was very kind and always checked on us and we got complimentary soup as well. Although I didn’t try the ramen, I can say that the curry rice bowl was very good. Will have to try the ramen next time
