We ordered the Wagyu kaiseki set, and it was outstanding — perfectly cooked, flavorful, and well-balanced from start to finish. The portion size was also very generous. We left feeling completely full and extremely satisfied, which made the experience even better.
There was also a live show during the meal, which added a unique and entertaining touch to the evening.
The head chef, the owner, and all the staff provided exceptional service. They were attentive, professional, and made us feel very welcomed throughout the entire dinner.
Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for an authentic, high-quality kaiseki experience with great food, great service, and great value!
The sweet shrimp and sushi were absolutely delicious, and the miso soup made from the shrimp heads at the end was incredibly rich and flavorful. This place truly holds its own against Michelin-listed kaiseki restaurants in Los Angeles.
High quality shrimp for the tempura and very fresh fish. Rice for the nigiri is right proportion. I wish they would ask if we want wasabi inside the sushi which would be a nice option.
Decor is beautiful. Service is excellent.
We went for the weekday omakase lunch special for $59.5 before tax and tips and it’s a great deal for that much great food showered upon us. $3.5 for a pot of green tea is very reasonable and it’s high quality matcha. All in it’s about $80 per person. Would come back again. (Oh the trick is that you have to sit at the tables and not sushi counter to enjoy that lunch special or else it’s the $120 set.)
Ignore the health department C rating for this restaurant. Maybe they pissed off somebody there but this place is on the high end of cleanliness at the dining area and bathroom, places we could see.
I discovered there’s a sushi Japanese restaurant here, but I prefer cooked and hot food. There seemed to be ramen on the menu, so I ordered shrimp tempura and an eel rice set. I didn’t really put my order in, as I was preoccupied and rushed. But the Japanese front desk was very helpful, and the other kitchen staff was very patient in confirming my order. After eating at home, I felt my energy return; the food healed me. The eel rice is my favorite. I found the rice, like sushi rice, delicious, reminiscent of childhood. The miso soup was also very authentic and not overly salty. The only downside was that the carrots on the side were beautiful, but not the freshest. The food is clean and healthy, and the environment is spotless. It was just not crowded, maybe because I went at noon. Highly recommended for sashimi lovers. I forgot to take a photo of the delicious food, it’s already in my stomach ❤️
Pros: hidden gem that not many people know about for now
– i have to say their prices aint bad when their fish is on par or even better than sushi Gen which is the standard for middle entry tier raw fish.
– Hida beef which is extremely rare for sushi restaurants to serve that type of beef which is found in Japans prefecture of Gifu and northern part of Hida region of Japan.
– 3 different styles on how they cook eel which i will post pictures of when i try them all. That gives a unique take on texture and taste which not many places offer in LA and OC.
Cons: None so far assuming i dont get food poisoning. I blame yelp for posting BS health score for making me 2nd guess this place.
– dont see many people but that could be a bonus cause you dont have to wait in line which is a massive bonus for me since its LA.
– 5/5 stars will come back to try the rest of the menu before people find out about this place. Will deduct stars in the future if i get obliterated from food poisoning which i hope not since it taste great unlike Mikomi in Alhambra.
Well, I stepped in last weekend, and I saw that Fuji was an authentic (I think the owner is really from Japan), classy, and elegant restaurant serving up only the best food! MP used to have lots of Japanese, although almost everyone has moved to Gardena or something. It’s nice to get these type of flavors back in the neighborhood!
I got the salmon skin salad, house salad, and some random nigiri to try (yeah, sue me as I was fasting that day and skipped breakfast). They even gave me kewpie mayo with the first one, which I hadn’t seen anywhere else.
Oh, and apparently they make their own soy sauce at Fuji. A must try if you come here! It’s much fresher than the packaged stuff.
Would definitely come back when I want some authentic Japanese and spoil myself!
Heard about it from my cousin’s IG and decided to try with a friend. Called ahead to reserve, staff was friendly and even asked about the occasions and allergies.
Location / Parking
• Inside Mars Plaza (Atlantic Blvd, just north of Garvey)
• Corner spot near Vons/Bank of America plaza
• Sunright Tea Studio is a couple doors down
• Parking: 3-level structure in back, usually plenty of space
The Setup
• Cozy interior: 3–4 tables + U-shaped sushi bar (12–15 seats)
• Only 1 chef + 2–3 servers working the night I went
• Chef speaks limited English, but staff explains every course clearly
Menu Highlights
• $80 – 12 pcs chef’s choice sushi
• $100 – 15 pcs chef’s choice sushi
• $120 – sushi omakase (what I got)
• $150 – kaiseki (multi-course haute cuisine )
• Wagyu, a la carte & overnight food specials available
My Picks
• Went with the $120 omakase → ~15 courses (apps, soup, sushi, dessert)
• Fish was fresh + well-balanced
• Side order: beef tongue → super tender, highly recommend!
Overall
• Price is fair for the quality + amount of food
• Solid B-tier omakase spot (and that’s not a bad thing!)
• Definitely coming back to try more
