Fugetsu – San Jose

Social Profile:

The year 2020 has been a drastic year with many changes across the industry, and we have also had to pivot our original plan of opening our second sit-down location in San Jose into a brand new concept of a deli-style take-out only restaurant alongside many popular Japanese favorite packaged snacks and drinks. It is somewhat reminiscent of a Japanese convenience store, a popular destination from kids to adults searching for a quick bite of quality food and snacks. We will be offering the same quality okonomiyaki, yakisoba, bento boxes in addition to new item kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers – another Osaka delicacy) to our menu. We have also teamed up with Shalala where they’ll bring additional Japanese favorites such as onigiri and tempura.

I’ve been meaning to check this place out so on Tuesday 1/13 around 6:20 pm I saw their 25% off promotion poster outside.

The discount was for hot food, onigiri, kimbap, sushi bar, rice bowls, basically everything excepts drinks and dessert.

I believe it starts at 6 pm but they still had a lot of food, except few items in the sushi cooler. There were some customers but no crazy wait/line.

I got a vegan soy meat onigiri for $3.75(originally $5), it was yummy and filling due to its size. It had a pronounced savory and sesame oil flavor.

I got an Oden Kimbap for $7.88(originally $10.50), which was also hefty in size but this item is made for them by some Korean business. The kimbap flavor was ok, rice was kinda too mushy imo, flavor was sweet and crunchy from the pickles. Honestly the frozen kimbaps are just as good!

I suggest anyone who’s in the area to stop by for dinner! I’m looking forward to trying out the eel bowls next time 🙂

P.S. they sell some new labubus but idk if they are real or fake fyi

I love coming by Fugetsu for their yummy and affordable bentos, especially near the end of the day when they tend to do 25% off discounts on anything left in the display cases. Recently, I picked up their salmon sashimi bento. Great portion and service since they also provided chopsticks and soy sauce. Salmon tasted fresh but I got abdominal aches the next day…

This store has a lot of different bento boxes and rice balls. There are also some other groceries and Japanese snacks. I like the salmon rice ball which is very fresh and flavored. Will come back to try other bento boxes.

I visited this Japanese bento shop last night and had a very uncomfortable experience with one of the staff members. I know I arrived a bit late, but I chose my bento fairly quickly and did not take a long time. While I was selecting my food, a non-Asian staff member placed a broom across the product area and stood there staring at me, which made me feel very uneasy. At first, I did not understand what he meant and thought the broom was just placed there by accident. When I tried to walk along my original path to the counter to pay, he crossed his arms and used his other hand to draw a circle, silently signaling me to take another route instead of simply speaking to me. His attitude and lack of basic politeness were really shocking. I never expected to encounter this kind of behavior in a Japanese bento shop, and I left feeling very disappointed and unwelcome.

They have 25% off leftovers bentos around 6 to 7pm most days depending on their stock. There are plates with a combo of some sort of don, okonomiyaki, and takoyaki. They also have fat onigiris, unagi meshi, poke bowls, sushi, udon, and other similar things I can’t think of right now.

They also sell nonfood stuffs from Japanese. Surprise boxes and stuffed Sanrio characters (Kuromi! ), puzzles, cutout displays to build. Different types of Miffy merchandise: cups, plates, teapots, stuffed toys. I was on a hunt for a Miffy item to give to a Miffy lover so that was my original mission when I came here before I got sidetracked by other cute and delicious things.

Incredible selection of gorgeous onigiri. I tried the eel, veggie, and shrimp tempura onigiris and each one was delicious. All the food was freshly cooked and so reasonably priced.

Got all this for $20-what an incredible deal! The salmon was fresh and quite creamy. They had a spontaneous 20% off after 6PM. Workers said the deal activates at random times some evenings.

Came here during Friday lunchtime, wasn’t too crowded. Food was pretty tasty, decently fresh. The modanyaki I had was pretty close to fresh okonomiyaki imo. I also got the karaage, it was solid, but it was saucy and I’m not that big a fan of glazed fried chicken. They have a pretty wide selection of various ready to eat dishes, as well as some that you take home and cook. They also sell various snacks and sauces and beverages including alcohol. Pretty nice place, it’s location is a lot more convenient to me compared to their Sunnyvale spot, so I’ll definitely be coming back.

Great to see this chain restaurant from Japan opening up this branch in san Jose, a new addition to the Santa Clara location. Originally famous for it’s okonomiyaki this store now expands into a mini market with many types of ready to eat dishes made onsite. The concept is just perfect for the pandemic stay at home time. Lots of other snacks from Japan also. Shout out to the Pocky Almond Crush sticks…
