The decoration is very nice and cool. It gives a light and cozy atmosphere. The menu has a lot of different dishes, took us awhile to decide. The price can be a bit steep compared to other places. But the food is worth it. The duck was so juicy and soft, we were surprised. The spicy girl maki roll was top notch, one of the best salmon roll we had. Even the fried oyster maki, doesn’t look very appealing but still very tasty.

Fugakyu is the greatest sushi restaurant in all of Boston. I was truly devastated when I found out that the owner was shutting it down. Fugakyu has become a second home for me, my wife and our friends. I have introduced this place to so many people in my life and they all grew to love it the way that I do. Of course I love the food so much, but I truly came back time and time again because of the amazing staff. After visiting for many years, the amazing server Leslie began to remember my friends and I and always gave us the most wonderful and fun experience. From that day forward I always requested Leslie as our server. He is truly an amazing person. I will miss celebrating my birthday here and making memories with my loved ones. We stopped in one last time, all 10 of us, and were given such an amazing send off from the staff in one of the private rooms on the second floor. Thank you to all of the amazing people at Fugakyu who never failed to make our dining experience wonderful – Leslie, Oriana, Ming. We will miss you guys so much but will cherish the memories we made there forever❤️❤️

We had been doing takeout since the pandemic started and only dined here in person recently and discovered quite a few updates to their menu as well as the interior. We ordered mostly cooked food and they all tasted pretty good. The portions were all quite large, reflected in the higher prices. The pork katsu came with two pork chops. I think the portions were too large. We had quite a bit of leftovers to take home. I do appreciate that the food quality is quite decent.
The only thing that was disappointing was the Chirashi. The dish had mostly rice with the typical salmon, tuna, egg, eel, shrimp. The mackerel didn’t taste fresh. The other pieces had hardly any flavor at all. I think I’ll stick with the cooked food, which they do pretty well.
The wait staff was efficient and attentive. Very much appreciated the service. There are more private tables now with sliding doors which is a nice update.

This place is really great, with really good environment.
We weren’t sure what would be good orders based on what’s worth it and authentic, so we ordered a few things like the tofu appetizer, sushi combo, chicken katsu, etc.
The prices are high, it’s more about the experience here I feel with the closed booths and all, the food I would say was rather normal, nothing extraordinary.
The maki-sushi was delicious, and fresh! We didn’t enjoy the katsu as much since it felt average, not worth the price we paid for it.
The tofu was also good, however small portion size.
Overall, I would say it’s a good place to dine in and enjoy the traditional Japanese style seating and customer service.
If you’re going for just the food then there are other good restaurants that offer similar quality for less pricing.

Went with the wife for our wedding anniversary. I was enthralled by the atmosphere right when we entered. The uniform for the wait staff were kimonos and each booth/table was sectioned off in a traditional Japanese style. This seating arrangement and extremely calm atmosphere took me for a plesasnt surprise as I am used to bustling american restaurants that often times put you in the center of a room with not much thought as to how loud the room is or how close you are to other guests.
Seeing how it was our anniversary, appetizers were necessary. We ordered seaweed salad and some vegetable tempura as we kept admiring the restaurant. As they arrived, my wife ordered a snow crab roll, spicy salmon roll and ikura/salmon roe while I ordered my go to, chicken katsu.
I’m no expert on sushi pricing and what’s fair, but I do think the apps and my katsu were pricey. The food was good if not great, but I think you are paying for the area you’re in and, as I mentioned earlier, the atmosphere. My wife enjoyed her meal as well but agreed that it is a tad bit expensive.
Again, I think the atmosphere was amazing and refreshing for someone like me, service was great too, however the price is a bit of knock on this place in my opinion. Still, a great spot for most ocassions as we were on an anniversay date, but there was a happy family with young kids a few tables away from us enjoying their meal.

I’ve never been so impressed with a late-night sushi spot ever in my life. We were just going to get some to-go, but when we sat down in the waiting area, we were quite literally amazed at the ambiance.
There’s a ton of different tiny things this place does to take your breath away from an atmosphere perspective. It does everything to immerse you and make you feel like you’re literally in someone’s warm, massive home. It may seem like too much at first, but every piece of decoration seems intentional and perfect for the occasion.
The maki is great, and fairly priced, given the vibe. We got gyoza that was delicious, and fantastic service. Would absolutely go again the next time we’re in Boston.

Beautiful restaurant, Japanese interiors, coy pond and fountain, waitresses wearing kimonos, private booth. That adds a lot to the experience. We went there for dinner on a winter Saturday night, two couples.
The food was good and nicely plated, the prices were high but fair, considering the quality of the restaurant.
The main downside is the rush. It started with the revolving water fountain in the vestibule. Instead of flowing slowly to create a relaxing atmosphere, it revolves fast and gushes water loudly. Then in the booth, the waitress was in a hurry to take orders, to remove dishes even when not fully eaten, and to bring us the bill at the end. We paid and then stayed a bit longer to talk, we did not order dessert or tea since the check had been closed.
I did not appreciate the wipes they serve with the meal. Those are very bad for the environment, not biodegradable. I’d rather use the napkins and wash my hands in the restroom.
I understand they need to make money and clear tables, but when paying around $50 pr person- you want to enjoy and take your time.
Perhaps it’s more relaxed on weekdays.

This place is beautiful. Gorgeous and photogenic entry way. Best to reserve a specific table when you book your reservation. They seem to like to keep the pretty seats open.
The food was fine. Nothing was bad but Nothing was spectacular. We got some apps, drinks and small sushi plates. They confused a bit of our order. They don’t seem to do anything for anniversaries because we told them it was ours the day before and while we were there.
Great location but there are some crappy seats so you should maybe ask specifically for the seats you want. Definitely worth it for pictures though. Instagramable place.
