I ordered the mapo tofu with pork and it was good but not great. Food was delivered neatly. The mapo tofu sauce was on the watery side as opposed to more oily and I could have used a little more of it. I also think fu mon lau would benefit from a spice scale so I could get it a little spicier. I do not think they included much Szechuan peppercorn. I would order again since not many places in the area serve this dish but there is room for improvement.

This is the best Chinese seafood restaurant you will find in Midwest. Food and dish selection is outstanding! They specialize in seafood and have an excellent selection of chicken, beef, pork and vegetarian plates too. I’ve traveled the world to find good food and I have to say is place is a gem. Recommend calling for reservations on weekends and they also have a small party room. Takeout is also an option. They have fresh seafood…as in it’s still live so it doesn’t get any better than that. Yes they do run out of product at times because it’s that good. Tables and chairs are really comfortable and the bathroom is clean. Parking is also convenient. Food is served on real plates. They do offer beer and wine here too. Lighting is bright so you can really see your food. Prices are affordable and the portions are large.

Gives me faith in good Chinese food again, instead of the nasty Americanized food most restaurants fall into. Love this place.

BEWARE OF AUTOMATIC GRATUITY!! We decided to dine here for lunch yesterday. First, we ordered the five spice beef. On the restaurant menu, it does not distinguish this as a cold appetizer (however, online it does). The beef we received was half the size of the picture, and looked like thick-sliced deli meat. We ordered the combination fried rice and the Kung Pao beef. Decent portion sizes, however, the food was lacking ✨flavor✨. The fried rice was the same color and it was missing sauce. Everything looked pale and gray, including the beef. The Kung Pao beef had very little flavor, the vegetables were not fully cooked, and was rather oily. I ordered hot tea, to which they tossed loose leaves in the pot and did not provide a sieve. To add insult to injury, our party of two was sneakily charged an 18% gratuity, although the sign stated that only applied to parties of five or more. The sneaky part here is once you give them your card, they only return merchant/customer copies for you to sign and requested an additional tip. They do not return the itemized receipt listing said gratuity. The restaurant smelled like a dirty seafood market, there were no other customers inside (which should’ve been my first clue). However, whenever the weight staff was available to help, they were helpful. Did not appreciate the scamming at the end.

This place has a book of dishes to select. Every dish is very tasty. The owner and waitress is always there. They are very helpful and friendly. I’ve been coming here for a couple of years now and still discovered new dishes that I really enjoy.

Fu Mon Lau is now my most highly recommended restaurant in the Dayton area!
Walking in you get a sense of elegance at the decor. You know you’ll be getting the freshest meal possible with one glance at the lobster and fish tanks.
For starters we had the 5 spice beef. This is a cold appetizer served with a light and delicious sauce.
We also shared the chicken fried rice. Such an amazing balance of flavors. Light and fluffy. My new favorite fried rice anywhere!
There were three of us dining together.

Our friend, Luke, had their signature dish: Stir Fried Lobster with scallions. He annihilated it exclaiming excellence with every bite.

My wife, Camilla, had the sizzling black bean steak with onions and peppers. She moaned in delight with each mouthful.

Being a seafood fanatic I enjoyed the Clay Pot Grouper. Let me tell you without hesitation that this is the best seafood dish I’ve had in all of Dayton.

Our wonderful server was Karen. She made us feel both welcome and very well looked after.
We asked about the AMAZING lose leaf tea we enjoyed with our meal and she excitedly told us it is Oolong tea fresh from China.

I will become a regular here.

Fu Mon Lau sesame chicken, hunan shrimp, sweet and sour chicken, and sesame chicken.

I have eaten Chinese food from the west coast to the east coast and even Alaska. When someone says hunan shrimp there is a particular flavor that I am looking for.

This restaurant had a beautiful presentation. The staff was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was authentic. The food was really good. The sweet and sour chicken had the best texture…fluffy, and was not oily. It needed more sauce so we asked for a side.

The rest of the food was good, but it didn’t taste like the name suggested. The hunan shrimp had no spice and the flavor wasn’t the same.

The orange chicken did not have any spice either. It’s usually served with red pepper flakes. The sesame chicken tasted like a piece of chicken with a sweet sauce and they threw sesame seeds on it. It didn’t have that distinct taste or orange or sesame chicken. I didn’t taste any orange in the orange chicken.

It was all really good, but I thought it was going to taste like something else.
