The food itself was fantastic. We started with the fried green tomatoes topped with sprouts and a flavorful herb sauce, and they were crispy, tangy, and super fresh-tasting. The matzo ball soup was warm and comforting, with a light, fluffy matzo ball and plenty of chicken and vegetables. We also tried one of their cocktails with a candied bacon garnish — fun, smoky, and surprisingly balanced.
For mains, the fish & chips was a standout. The batter was crisp without being greasy, and the fish tasted fresh. Fries were seasoned well and served piping hot. The turkey club sandwich was also really solid — hearty, well-stacked, and full of flavor without being heavy. Everything felt thoughtfully prepared.
The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, perfect for catching up or taking a break from the city. Service was friendly, attentive, and never rushed. And for anyone with dietary restrictions (especially gluten-free), this place is a true find. So many menu items can be made gluten-free, and they do it well — not just as an afterthought.
Highly recommend if you’re in the area and want a place where you can enjoy a great meal and actually feel comfortable doing it.
The one downside was when someone on staff told us we had to give up our table because it was “reserved,” even though we were barely 45 minutes in. Completely unnecessary and it threw the whole meal off. I brought it up with the manager and he handled it quickly, which I appreciated, but it still should never have happened. A small bill credit would’ve gone a long way.
Once that was sorted out, everything fell back into place and the rest of the experience was solid. Good food, great drinks, and a place I’d definitely return to.
Ordered the (brunch special) summer chicken salad, which came out within 10 minutes, which again was much appreciated.
To my pleasant surprise, it was so very nice. Fresh and delicious. The peaches and apples, especially the peaches, added a lovely sweet touch, but not overwhelming. I know it’s a chicken salad but chicken played only a supporting role, for the fruits and vegetables (and goat cheese) were the stars.
5 ⭐ all around.
If you want a delicious Reuben sandwich and do not want to wait in line at Katz’s Delicatessen, then this is your place! We came in on a Saturday around lunch time and luckily we did not have to wait in line! The food, the atmosphere and the service were amazing!
We ordered the Reuben, Matzo ball soup, and the pastrami hash. Everything was delicious! The pastrami was so juicy and tasty that I almost order a second sandwich! The potatoes in the pastrami hash were crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. Everything was so delicious. We liked it so much that we ended up going to their other location on West End.
The service was fantastic as well. We accidentally order the broccoli reuben (broccoli instead of pastrami) and our server changed the sandwich for the reuben without hesitation! She was constantly checking on us as well.
If you are in NYC area, please do yourself a favor and go to Friedman’s!
