Fresh Garden Kitchen offers a wide variety of authentic Chinese dishes and has a specialty in the Chinese food from the northeast (东北) region. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. My family is from the northeastern region and eating here really sent me back home to my grandma’s place. Highly recommend checking this place out!

This place is so yummy! They have a great selection of northeastern Chinese dishes, such as 溜肉段. The deep fried spicy intestines were amazing and so was the 凉皮 mung bean noodle salad. Please get their skewers too. The lamb skewers are so delicious. They really reminds me of food in China. If you’re looking for REAL Chinese food, this is it.

First experience, and ordered take out as a walk in. Inattentive front end and took a bit to be addressed. Atmosphere in the dining area was simple but bright. Ordered Sweet and Sour Pineapple Chicken.
Good sized portion and nice presentation. I was pleased to see the dish contained pineapple, mango, onions, carrots and green bell peppers, and it was served hot. The sauce was not too sweet, but was a little bland. The vegetables were well cooked. The dish looked delicious, but the CHICKEN. That was the problem. A little over cooked, very fibrous and a flavor that came on late that was simply not good. I don’t recall when I last did not eat my meal, but the chicken was inedible, unfortunately, and thus one star.
I’ll likely not try this place again.

This place is truly a gem. The cook here is a master of ingredients and technique. The dough has great texture and cooked to perfection. The frying technique is amazing, crunchy outside, fluffy inside and not greasy. The taste profile os each dish is also unique. Try the squirrel fish with shrimp, eggplant with garlic sauce, mapo tofu, soybean paste noodle to start, crispy cabbage for dessert, it’s sweet fried dough. Everything we’ve had here is good.

We had a lovely, tasty Christmas day meal here. Excellent eggplant dish, excellent cabbage dish and dumplings, tasty soup, fine General Tso– though rice took some time to arrive. The food was fresh and delicious. The service was good and everyone was friendly. So good to find an excellent, reasonably priced Chinese restaurant right in our Squirrel Hill neighborhood

Ordered takeout.
One authentic pork dish for us which was good – slightly different than other renditions I’ve had, but particularly liked the real Chinese peppers and wood ear mushrooms mixed in and the peppers were crisp and fresh. The pork belly looked freshly cut and was slightly uneven as a result but the freshness was perfect.
Fried rice had very tender meat and perfectly cooked authentic fried rice – flavored perfectly, not too oily but each grain perfectly separated.
Lamb Skewers were perfect. Eat while hot!!
Our daughter prefers Western style food and she enjoyed their Orange Chicken. Tried it as well. Breading was a tad heavy but it was crisp, cooked well, and the orange peel flavor shined through.

Gentleman in front was friendly and helpful. Restaurant seemed clean. Many dishes sounds like they’re perfect for drinks with friends and they are BYOB. Definitely coming back with some Tsingdao beers to try more!

Very authentic Northeastern cuisine, the dumplings are made by themselves, and the pot-wrapped meat is also good!

One of the best Chinese restaurants in Pittsburgh! The food is absolutely delicious, and the prices are very reasonable. Considering both price and quality, this is the best Chinese restaurant I’ve had during all my years in Pittsburgh.

I highly recommend the roasted lamb skewers — authentic Chinese night-market style, full of flavor and perfectly seasoned.

The spicy shredded potato salad is also my favorite. The simplest dishes often test a chef’s true skill, and only a well-trained chef can master the knife work that gives the potatoes their crisp and refreshing texture. To the best of my knowledge, this is the only restaurant in Pittsburgh that offers this kind of traditional Chinese-style shredded potatoes.

The only minor downside is that the wait can be a bit long during busy hours — but that’s because every dish is freshly made to order. Highly recommended if you want to experience real northeastern Chinese flavor!
