I ate here with my wife for dinner as I am an older student. The food was what you would expect from an attempt to feed thousands of young adults but there were plenty of healthy options as well. There is a full salad bar and a meat and vegetables bar along with the typical burgers, pizza, and sandwhichs. I was glad to see unsweetened tea and Zero soda, juice and milk options. The employees were very polite and helpful. The area was reasonably clean and bright. The soft serve ice cream was machine was empty but I imagine that it is used alot. Booths, tables, and high seats are offered for seating and they are plentiful and comfortable. There is a short order grill / lounge available down stairs although we didn’t visit it. If you are a student at USA I would recommend using the “fee money -Jag Eats” for dining that you are forced to pay for at registration here, instead of the over priced junk food kiosks at the student center. Parking is reasonable as I imagine most students walk to the dining hall. The food is served cafeteria buffet style & all you care to eat for a fixed price which I think is good as 18 year old boys eat considerably more than teenage girls. I believe dinner was $14 per person. They offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner fare at the appropiate times seven days a week.

Poor selections. Wish there were more options. Some of the meals are not bad but I wouldn’t want to be a student living off of their food. 0/5 (Pic is not from caf it’s from Google but reminds me of what I ate)

Great place for the University of South Alabama students, faculty and staff to eat. 6 different food stations to choose from and a desert bar.

I feel like the food here is never all that good for you, though I do like the taste of most the foods. Even the healthy eating selections feel slightly unhealthy. I have left with my stomach bothering me quite a few times. Though I’ll give credit to the cafeteria for finally adding vegan options (though I’m not vegan myself, I’ll eat from the vegan station sometimes). I also hate how they give us food in small portions, like we’re not in elementary school anymore. I understand trying to not cause overweight issues, but I always leave the cafeteria feeling hungry after 3 hours, and that’s a bigger issue to me, especially that I deal with bad hunger pains. This place never fills me up, so sometimes, I’ll eat in my dorm or get food elsewhere. Last thing I’ll say, I actually love some of the staff here, some of them can make the students laugh and brighten up their day. Some could care less that the students are there, and they are just there to work and get their next paycheck. I’ll also give credit that they hire people with disabilities, because they also need a job like the rest of us.

Stopped by to visit our son and wanted to see how the food was. For the two of us it was just a tad over $12, but that wasn’t the best part. It’s AYCE and offered plenty of variety…including endless chocolate milk!!
This is NOT your typical cafeteria fare either. While the standard burger, hot dog and pizza offerings are available there is so much more. Beverage options are so numerous and even a few healthy water options were in sight, cucumber and orange.
Overall, this was a very pleasant surprise and we’re happy to know he’ll eat very well.

As a freshman, the dining hall is great if you have no money and need some quick food, and that’s about it. The food is almost inedible at times, the staff, with the except of maybe 2 or 3, are rude and cold, and don’t really care if you make a special request. And there are ALWAYS flies. No matter where you eat in there, you will always have a fly buzzing around your plate, and they’ve been there so long, even if you swat them away, they are unfazed. It’s disgusting, the menu is inconsistent, the food is nasty, and for how much you have to pay if you want a meal plan to even get the CHANCE to eat there without spending $10 just to see what they have, you’d think they’d be more caring about the atmosphere. Plus, when schools comes to visit and they eat at the dining hall, the staff treat them 20x better than they treat us. The kids that spent $5 to eat there get better treatment that then students who spend around $1500 per semester for a meal plan. Disappointing, don’t waste your time.

If you go to south I highly recommend finding a way to not get the meal plan whether that be moving off campus or whatever. It is an absolute ripoff as the cheapest plan is 2000$ a semester. They have the worst foods I have had in mobile and half the time they don’t even have food. There are times I go into this place just looking for something to satisfy my hunger as I do not want to go out to eat or cook something myself but most of the time I end up leaving hungry. I can say with confidence that in the 2 years I’ve been at south the meal plan is the worst 8000$ I’ve spent.

Unless you can eat hamburgers or pizza everyday, 9 times out of 10 the food is so bad I wouldn’t give it to my dog. Every now and then you’ll come across something that actually tastes good, but as far as nutrition goes…you can forget it. There’s a handful of people on the staff that are actually nice, the rest sigh and roll their eyes if you ask them to do the smallest task. This place needs new management NOW!

I took my students on a Graduate Tour here to view the campus, and our overall experience was awesome! They enjoyed the dining hall and the wide variety of choices you could choose from. They had everything from pizza, to hamburgers, vegan food and the list continues to grow. The food was very good and I wish I were a student there, so I could eat there often.
