$55 for a standard upmarket hotel breakfast is too steep. I mentioned this to a senior staff member, who shot back – “yes, but the quality”. The quality was average and what I’d expect, the price was extraordinary – and charging an extra $6 for a decidedly average espresso was cheeky.

The breakfast here was incredibly disappointing — the food was bland and honestly not worth the high price tag. But what truly ruined the experience was the service.
When I asked the server to explain the tax on the bill (since it looked like tax was added on top of a mandatory 20% service charge for a buffet breakfast), she responded rudely and said, “Well, you’re in the United States — we charge taxes here.”
That comment was completely uncalled for and condescending. I spoke perfect English throughout the entire conversation — I was born and raised here in the States. Even if I hadn’t been, no guest deserves to be spoken to that way.
Also, why is there even a mandatory service charge on a self-serve buffet to begin with? The whole setup feels like a cash grab, and the staff’s attitude only makes it worse.
