This is much more a bar and grill than a French restaurant. The menu was limited and even at that, they were out of one of things we ordered. Burger was mediocre. Calamari was good – very tender. The chicken sandwich was not great. You could barely find the brie on it and the chicken tasted like it was fried in oil that needed to be changed 🙁 I was disappointed that the menu online is not the menu that was in the restaurant. I was looking forward to the sole, but it was not on the menu.
Though the tables and decor was were changed, there were still all the TV’s mounted on the walls from when W’s Grill was in this location.
This feels like a restaurant that doesn’t quite know what it wants to be yet – a more midscale French place or a bar and grill.

The most amazing, kind, friendly staff and owners ever. Truly some of the best food i’ve had in awhile. Drinks were SO good and such a great price. The food was on the pricier side but for the portion size, quality, and taste it was well worth it. This is definitely our favorite date night spot, or even just to stop in for drinks… I know i’ll be here weekly.

I had the pleasure of dining at French Oak last night, and it was such a wonderful experience! The ambiance is beautiful, the staff is super inviting, and the food was delicious!
The entire menu is well thought out and has something for everyone. Every single appetizer we super tasty! My favorite was the Lobster Mac & Cheese! Yum!
Our entrees were just as good! The risotto in the Cod dish was bursting with flavor, the salmon perfectly cooked, the branzino was extremely fresh! Truly couldn’t ask for more from this gem!
I will definitely be returning! Having a local French restaurant in town that has great food is a total game changer!

If you are going for the food, you will not be disappointed! From start to finish, the food was prepared well, presented beautifully, and the taste was spot on. The service was sketchy at best. The setting is okay, the live band started at 8:30 PM drowning our any dinner conversation. I hope that they continue to do what they do well (The Food) and improve the things that they can – including training the wait staff.

Finally came tonight after months of hearing good reviews from friends. My husband and I are definitely going to be regulars. There are so many different choices on the menu that we had a difficult time choosing. We decided to go with the onion soup and goat cheese salad for appetizers and Burger and Salmon for our entrees (which were all delicious!) Can’t wait to try all their other options! Didn’t have room for dessert, but the options looked so good! Service is on point and friendly. This is truly a hidden gem!

Excellent food. Been there a few times already. I love fresh crunchy bread, and their bread was outstanding. I had their French onion soup as well which was just perfect with lots of cheese on top and cooked to perfection. Caesar salad with grilled chicken was also very tasty, not heavy just perfectly seasoned. The staff is very friendly without being overbearing. Highly recommend this place. Will be back.

Awesome new French/American restaurant in Oakland, just opened up in 2023 and still a hidden gem. Fantastic cocktail menu and dinner options. Desserts are great as well. As with any French American cuisine, prices are a tad higher, but worth it for a date night or special occasion as the quality is through the roof. Will be back.

Firstly, the dinner menu is small, not many choices. Anyway, there were 4 of us for dinner on Friday night. Staff is very nice, but it was very crowded and they need more help. We had the lobster mac and cheese for an appetizer, it was huge and delicious (really could be a meal). Then Escargot, came in a mushroom sauce, it was so so, should really be in garlic and butter. For dinner we had the salmon and lentils, which was really good. My husband had the gnocchi, it was a quarter of the size of the lobster mac and cheese appetizer, and very rich. It is a nice place, they need to have some specials for dinner. It is pricey, especially if you have drinks.
