Great French themed atmosphere, indoor and outdoor dining areas. Outdoor in front of restaurant and out back. Beautifully prepared and presented food. Sophisticated atmosphere and this place fills up fast and it has reservations for many tables it’s so popular. I showed up solo and early and was seated. Had I been any later, there might not have been a table available. Long wine list. My tuna carpaccio stater was phenomenal as was my steak and Bernaise sauce.

Another spontaneous adventure – we chose to visit for lunch and as before, not disappointed at all. On a very hot day, we were given a quaint table in the air-conditioned bar area. The service was exceptional and the food was fantastic.

I was fortunate enough to find myself in Franschhoek, which translates to “French Corner.” I decided to dine at a French restaurant that has been in business for the past 24 years.
On the specials board, they listed mussels, but just as my waiter asked what I’d like for starters, another server updated the board to read “sold out.” Well, that just meant the mussels were popular that evening. Instead, I opted for the prawn tempura. It was light, unlike the greasy tempura you often find at Chinese restaurants, and the sauce was intriguing.
For my main course, I chose the veal schnitzel, one of their original dishes, to discover why it’s a menu staple. Now I understand—it’s a flavor from another dimension, neither distinctly red meat nor chicken.
For dessert, I indulged in Belgian chocolates paired with a smooth 10-year-old KWV brandy.
The restaurant supports an academy that helps children and is a celebrity hotspot, having hosted the likes of Bono, Faf du Klerk, and Bryan Habana. The staff is exceptionally well-trained.
As always, it’s about expectations, and this highly regarded establishment met mine. I left that night thoroughly satisfied. Well done. 4.5/5.

Had an excellent steak dinner served by our waiter Sima. It was his 2nd day but he was so friendly, accommodating and knowledge about the wines and recommended a lovely red blend for our meal. All the dishes we ordered were amazing – will definitely return if we’re in the area!

If you’re visiting Franschhoek, a meal at French Connection Bistro is an absolute must.

From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm, relaxed, and effortlessly charming. The setting strikes the perfect balance between elegant and comfortable — ideal for both a romantic dinner and a laid-back lunch with friends.

The food was exceptional. Each dish was beautifully presented and packed with flavour, showcasing fresh ingredients and thoughtful preparation. The menu offers a wonderful blend of classic French-inspired cuisine with a modern twist, and every course felt carefully crafted. The wine selection, as you’d expect in Franschhoek, was outstanding and paired perfectly with our meal.

Service was another highlight — attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming without ever feeling intrusive. The staff clearly take pride in what they do, which elevates the entire experience.

Overall, French Connection Bistro delivers on every level: atmosphere, cuisine, wine, and service. It’s one of those places you leave already planning your next visit. Highly recommended!

The service in this restaurant was truly outstanding – especially thanks to our waiter Simon. He was incredibly friendly, attentive, and always had a smile on his face. You could immediately tell that he enjoys his job and genuinely cares about the guests.

It was great! ⭐️

I took 40 staff for dinner here as part of conference held in town. From the start management we’re amenable to accommodating a large group and with last minute changes. The service on the night was impeccable and the food was sublime. All food cane at the same time and there was not one issue. Would highly recommend for a romantic evening or a group gathering as venue lends itself to either with ease. Thank you for having us

Warm and cozy French Bistro in a touristy part of town. Multiple fireplaces running inside on a cold and wet winter day. Our table was in an awkward position up against a wall that required some effort to get into. Service was a bit slow despite not being overly busy. I ordered the daily special Mushroom soup with a cheese baguette toast slice R120. Soup was piping hot and fairly tasty. Bread came served in soup which didnt allow for dipping. Open plan kitchen, one chef was blowing their nose and touching their mouth and didn’t wash they hands afterwards which was a little concerning. Extensive menu and wine list. Wines very reasonable and large pours.

Cosy restaurant- indoor and outdoor seating. Food is good but not the best. Ordered the trio of ice-creams which was a disappointment. Did not have the blueberry flavor. The coffee and vanilla bean was icy and lacked creaminess. On leaving the restaurant I noticed that there were specials (I would have definitely ordered) which was not mentioned to us by the 3 waitress’s that served us.

I choose the schnitzel as I had read it’s really good here. It was oke, not what I expected. Maybe I was unlucky. The staff was lovely though and I liked the interior of the restaurant.
