I’ve always enjoyed Freebirds in New Braunfels, Texas—the food is fresh, flavorful, and the staff is generally friendly and welcoming. It’s a place we like to come back to for a solid meal.
That said, during our recent visit we noticed algae buildup in the ice machine. We brought this to the attention of the employees so they were aware, and because of this, we chose not to order drinks with ice.
For awareness, algae and biofilm in ice machines can pose legitimate health risks, as they may harbor bacteria or mold if not properly cleaned and maintained. Ice machines are often overlooked but are considered a food-contact surface, so regular sanitation is important.
I’m sharing this in the spirit of transparency and improvement. I hope management addresses the issue promptly, as this location has a lot going for it and we’d love to continue dining here with confidence.

I had a great experience at Freebirds! The food was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what I was craving. I love that you can fully customize your burrito and choose from so many toppings. Everything tasted fresh and the portions were generous. The staff was friendly and kept the line moving while still making sure orders were right. The restaurant was clean and had a relaxed vibe. Definitely one of my go-to spots when I want a quick, satisfying meal.

They gave my daughter RAW!!! Chicken in her burrito not just one piece but multiple pieces. I am beyond angry! How do you not notice that the meat is not fully cooked and chicken of all meats! Isn’t there a protocol that they have to follow before they can serve meat? How many people also have eaten the same batch of chicken my daughter got last night? You are talking salmonella poisoning. How irresponsible of these workers and on top of that we had to wait 30 minutes for this order even though they told us we were next and still watched about ten people go through the line and about five people pick up orders. That seems to be an excuse they use a lot. The guy said oh because it’s thanksgiving that should not matter. It should go in order. They should let people know as well why they are waiting and maybe they would understand more. But that’s is besides the point. They still served RAW chicken unacceptable there is no apology that they can give me that will be enough. My daughter can get very sick from this. That is not ok with me.

Workers were TERRIBLE! Asked for a monster bowl then began giving me portions for a kids meals. I had to tell them to add more at least 7 times per ingredient. One monster bowl was $15 and I would have gotten more from a happy meal from mc Donald’s. Highly suggest going to Chipotle or some other restaurant. The picture is what I got for 15$, just a warning to be careful and vigilant with this generation and their portions.

I arrived at the scheduled pickup time for my online order. I had to wait in line for way too long (isn’t this the point of online ordering??) just to then alert the staff I was there to pick up an online order. The alternative is interrupting them while they are serving others, which I am unwilling to do. My food was cold, the black beans were hard/undercooked. I stopped eating it and decided to go elsewhere just so I could have a fresh hot meal like I wanted – so, $15 wasted. I have been here a few times for dine-in which is *usually* fine, but their online ordering process is not working well. I can see after multiple previous customer reviews and responses from the “Owner” that they’ve acknowledged this issue and promised that they will correct it going forward. Clearly, the issue is still not corrected as of 12/12/2025 – months after other similar reviews. So, I don’t hold much trust in this establishment to actually correct things. I will not be returning. It’s just not worth the gamble.

I guess I should have read the reviews before I placed my order. I literally received raw chicken. I didn’t even realize until I ate half my burrito. I’m beyond angry. It’s clearly raw so I don’t understand how the cooks didn’t see this?!

I stopped coming here because the the food was always cooled off by the time I sat and ate at a table. I talked to the employee about the temp of the food and instead of making my burrito and leaving it on the cold metal assembly line unwrapped and waiting for the next order, Samuel quickly made my burrito and wrapped it up immediately. Im not sure why that isn’t a standard practice. The 2 employees on shift this evening honestly went above and beyond for me. I recommend you offering the option if a grill though. That would be lovely.

Omg you wana talk about something good to fill you up. I never leave hunger from here. Great service from time you greated walking the door, to while you eating to make sure you’re still happy. From all the great choices, you have to make your burrito or bowl . Whatever you are in hunger for, they will fill it up. Yeah, a couple of things are added charges, but hey, for every great thing, there is a small price extra. I had no problems with it. I just said, “Keep pouring it on.” The worker had to get a second tortilla just to wrap mine. I didn’t mind. I was hungry. So, like, I was saying that if you are in the mood for some good burrito or bowl, this is the place to go. Then, if your artistic makes something out of your tinfoil and asks to place it on the wall,

Thoroughly disappointed in my online ordering experience. I was told that the food would be ready at 7:30. So I show up at exactly 7:30. Whenever I come in I have to flag down an employee after standing at the counter for about a minute. And when I tell them who I am they said oh we’re fixing to start working on your order. Granted, it only took them about 15 minutes to make my food from the time that I told them I was there. But that’s the whole point of ordering online. If you tell me the order is going to be ready at a time, it should be ready at that time. I can’t even give them a pass because they were busy, they weren’t busy. The food met expectations. The atmosphere in the restaurant is fun as always. And this one was pretty clean. And I guess I would have to blame the lack of having my food ready on the service. Though the people that were working were friendly, eventually.

Placed an order to be picked up an hour later. Arrived at the store at exactly the right time and my order hadn’t even been started. Took nearly 15 mins of standing there. I got home and my salad had about 10 small pieces of lettuce (see picture). Steak was cold. I was missing ingredients and got hardly any dressing. I tried reaching out to rectify, but have not gotten a response. It’s my second time in a row to be disappointed by this location.
