Very nice place in beech mountain. Very casual, the people were extremely friendly, the food was good, the atmosphere absolutely beautiful. We’re no longer at beech mountain, but if we were, we would definitely go back, probably multiple times.

Frank’s Backside Deli is a hidden gem that truly impresses atop Beech Mountain with its delightful menu and charming atmosphere. Our family has visited since the 1980’s. The standout dishes include the BLT with Avocado, which is perfectly balanced and flavorful, and the Great Ole’ Smokey sandwich, which is a must-try for its rich, smoky taste. Both sandwiches are best enjoyed on their sourdough bread, which adds a wonderful texture and flavor.
The deli’s glassed-in dining room offers stunning views, including the rooftop, adding a unique charm to your meal. If you prefer dining al fresco, the outdoor seating area is equally appealing. Here, you can enjoy your food while taking in views of local wildlife, soothing fountains, and the beautiful surroundings.
Attached to Frank’s Backside Deli is a gift shop and general merchandise store, offering a wide range of items at fair prices. It’s a great spot to browse and find unique gifts or everyday essentials.
Overall, Frank’s Backside Deli is a fantastic place to enjoy delicious food in a beautiful setting, with the added bonus of a well-stocked, reasonably priced gift shop. Highly recommended for both locals and visitors alike.

If they don’t have it you don’t need it! They have everything! I’m so glad I caught Fred there as he was a wonderful friend to my dad, one of his best friends. It was great catching up. I could spend hours browsing the store or just sitting in one of the many areas. The view is gorgeous, the restaurant serves fantastic food. One stop shopping on top of Beech Mtn.

While staying in Beech Mountain, we wanted some quick breakfast. Came across this as it was closest to us.
Big mistake. The food took 40 minutes to get to us, and it was dry meat and fake eggs. I felt like I was at fire festival and got food from them.
The only positive of this place is the cheap price and cool set up inside. Doubles as a gift shop.
But man, they need to be investigated for their food. It was awful. Look at the pictures.

What a cute place for breakfast! The employees were so kind and the food was your typical Southern fare – cheesy grits, biscuits and gravy, bacon, and all the goodness of sweet tea. We had the breakfast buffet but they also have breakfast sandwiches. Definitely a great place to have breakfast on Beech Mountain before starting any of your adventures in the area!

Stopped in Saturday morning 10/5/25 for breakfast per recommendations from locals. While the food, which took an hour once received was fresh and tasty, their service, organization and handling customers to put simply..was horrible. Maybe we just came at a bad time? Breakfast was listed until 11am. And while we had already ordered our food long before they closed, we sat waiting for our food and watched the chaos ensue. They closed the kitchen down at 10:30am while the line to order got longer and longer. The poor woman at the register was left dropping food off to people in the dining room as it came out, dealing with disgruntled customers who wanted to know where their food was, refunds and dealing with people upset that the kitchen closed early. No one came to assist her. It wasn’t for a lack of employees as we counted atleast 4 to 5 other people in the area working and a few literally just standing in the back. The kitchen staff was slow and unorganized and the tickets got so backed up they couldn’t handle anymore. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars was the food atleast tasted good but I don’t think I’ll risk coming back to that hot mess again.
I had no idea who was the manager because they never made their presence known while we watched multiple unhappy people approach the lady at the cash register.

If you are grabbing rentals before hitting the slopes, you might as well grab the breakfast buffet here here as well! There are not a lot of other restaurants open in the morning, and although we weren’t quite ready for a big meal/buffet, we ended up being pretty happy with this decision! This is a no-frills breakfast buffet with probably about 6 to 8 items as your selection, but it is quite a hearty meal.
The eggs are not powdered, and the biscuits and gravy were delicious! The men who were serving everyone were very friendly and moved as quickly as possible although the line was a little bit slow since it was a busy time of the morning. It is a little bit of a pricier buffet given the selection, But for the convenience, it was worth it.

We visit Beech Mountain and have been coming to Fred’s for years now. The food is good, the service is wonderful, and everybody has been friendly. You don’t want to miss this little place that has a lot to offer.

We recently stayed on Beech Mountain and this little restaurant was located about 5 minutes from where we are staying. This is a nice little local place to grab some food. I tried the burger and my wife ordered the vegetable soup. Both items were good. We also stopped by the next day to morning to get breakfast to go, we tried the sausage egg and cheese biscuit. Staff was very friendly, definitely a convenient place to grab a quick bite if you are on the mountain.

If there’s anywhere to get breakfast in this town, this is the place to come! We ate here every single day of our trip. Always homemade and friendly staff. Certainly would recommend their breakfast biscuits and the biscuits and gravy so delicious!
