I had quite a lovely time here. I felt transported to another place in time the moment I stepped in the building. Lots of history: I love the old decor, vibe and ambiance. The hostess and waitress were really friendly. Food tasted very healthy and natural. It’s a pretty big place. Different vibes in different areas. I would like to come back and try other foods and sit in different areas.

We stumbled upon this place on accident. We had no idea of the significance of the restaurant. I am so glad we found it. We were looking for a quick place to get a bite to eat and a couple drinks and we were more than impressed with what we got. We were able to make a reservation about 15 minutes prior to arrival and were able to be seated right away when we got there. We were a group of five and all had drinks and food. The food was absolutely delicious. The beer was great. The service was good at the restaurant was clean. I highly recommend coming here. The mushroom flat bread was delicious as was the steak sandwich

I finally got a chance to stop in the oldest restaurant in NYC while I was in the area. As soon as you walk in, you are transported back to the 1700s. I absolutely loved the old-fashioned decor and ambiance. The staff is friendly, and my server Rodrigo was very attentive. The food and drinks come out fast, and everything tasted great. I ordered the New England Clam Chowder and the Pan Seared Organic Salmon. I agree with several reviews here that the bread that comes with the soup is extremely dry, but that doesn’t take away the great flavor from the soup. My salmon was perfectly cooked, and the skin remained nice and crispy even though it was sitting in the butternut squash puree. The overall food menu seems very limited, and I think the prices are rather reasonable, especially for this area. The restaurant is kept very clean, and to get to the bathrooms is like walking through a maze. They have a museum on the premises that I didn’t get a chance to check out, but I will definitely do so the next time I dine here.

If we lived here, this would be a normal bar spot for us! Luke the bartender from Ireland was wonderful. Funny, engaging, clearly loves his job and knows all about the beer (and has the best pour technique!). We sat in the Independence Bar. Try the Wolf Hound Flagship Irish Stout. Awesome. Great historic atmosphere. Would love to come back and try a whiskey flight. We had a big pretzel to snack on which hit the spot, especially the horseradish mustard!

This place it great. Service is on point and staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Given thw history here, whether you are a tourist or new Yorker, this place never disappoints. The food is also magic!! Brought my sister and her partner here who are out of towners and they were so happy.

Me and my friends came here because of the history of this place (read about it). And I was really impressed by the atmosphere! So good smelling: fresh beer, old wood (floor and walls) and tasty food! This bar is some kind of museum! Beer and cocktails were really good

What a cool old bar. George Washington had his farewell dinner there. Huge amount of booze was served at that party. They make a nice old fashioned there and have a good drink menu food was great as well as the service.
