We were staying at the hotel and ordered pizzas, which took 45 minutes to arrive. We could see the “chef” preparing the pizzas – he appeared to be consulting a list of toppings, as if unfamiliar with the process. I ordered the Pollo pizza, which was supposed to be topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, chicken and basil.
I think this was possibly the worst pizza I’ve ever eaten in my life. The tomato sauce and mystery cheese were spread so thinly I could hardly taste them, and the cubes of chicken scattered sparingly on top were stringy and bland. There was no fresh basil at all. It was like eating damp cardboard, only significantly less flavourful.
My lovely husband’s pizza (meatballs) looked similarly unappetising, but he is of the “let’s not make a fuss” school of manners, so we decided to make the best of a very bad job, eat what we could, and ask for the bill.
The “waitress” didn’t bring a bill, just showed up at the table with the card machine, gave us a total verbally and waited for us to pay. We were given a receipt which showed a 12.5 percent service charge had been added – what an absolute liberty!
I cannot believe the rave reviews extolling the delicious food, atmosphere etc. at this restaurant. The staff were lackadaisical at best, and the pizzas were dire. Which, at over £17 per pizza, is no joke. Never again.

Visited for Sunday lunch. The resturant was very quiet, more staff than customers which wasn’t the best first impression. The place was very clean and I can imagine as a bar it gets very busy. Beef dinner was basic but nice. The Yorkshire pudding was a total disaster. 2 people at the table had finished and the server took their plates away whilst others were still eating. A positive was the bill which was £46 for 3 adult meals, 1 child and drinks. Worth a visit for the price if you’re stuck for somewhere to go but pray the chef has worked on their Yorkshire making skills

Staying at the hotel. Offered the 3 course menu plus wine. Very good value. Not worth going out. Food very tasty and good. Would recommend.

Visited this restaurant as part of a group on a tour staying at the Holiday inn Jesmond . Inspite of some bad reviews of recent tour groups I can only imagine it has made them up their game because personally our food was lovely, a good choice every day , always hot and cooked perfectly. The staff were accommodating, polite and very friendly. Really enjoyed ourselves !

Nice welcome from Nichola and good service. We ate well topped, thin base pizzas and pasta. Wider menu available picture attached. Good portion size. Great value Groupon deal included wine. Needed to wrap up warm as eating outside in well lit, unheated, otherwise comfortable patio area.

I went to Fratello’s on the 12th December expecting it to be busy but it was dead. That would be due to the fact that the whole place smelt like drains, the service was appalling and the food was mediocre and overpriced. We were a table of 6, and there were two other tables occupied in the whole restaurant, yet we waited 45 minutes for our starters which consisted of bread and olives, which require no cooking, and one portion of chicken wings. What took 45 minutes. The mains took another 45 minutes to arrive and the steaks for my 2 nephews were overcooked but we didn’t send them back for fear of waiting another 45 minutes. There was a Guinness pump at the bar but no Guinness. They take your credit card details on booking and will charge you if you don’t turn up or if the whole party does not turn up. If it hadn’t been for this I would have walked out as soon as I smelt the place. There are plenty of restaurants in Jesmond, so do yourself a favour and don’t go to Fratello’s even if you are staying at the Holiday Inn. They should be ashamed of themselves.

First time here, I don’t know what I was expecting but whatever it was I was definitely impressed! Smart place, we had a Groupon for Saturday’s which was incredibly good value. The is on another level, cooked super fresh from scratch, it’s up there with the best I’ve had. I liked the bar as well comfortable. The open plan kitchen pizzeria was nice. The staff were super accommodating and mega friendly! I’d come back for sure.

The atmosphere was good relaxed. We asked for a coffee after our dinner only to be told the coffee machine had started to clean itself REALLY come on ive heard some excused. lol still got them though in massive mugs . kind of put of with big mugs . three stars represents this establishment fine. Had a pizza the next night . i have to take away a star . the pizza took 45 mins from order and had 5 pieces of mushroom and 3 chicken and 2 slices of ham. very poor .

We came for dinner mid-week and I must say the pizza and pasta are one of the best we’ve tried in Newcastle!
Thanks and congratulations to the chef Darren. The food and the service were spot on, we will definitely come again!
