I rarely give all 5 stars on a brand new 2 week old restaurant, but this is well earned and deserved. Was looking for an “experience” to celebrate my Navy Veteran on Veterans Day and boy did this NOT disappoint! Food was stellar and authentic. We sat at the bar and service was immediate even with only one person running the front as host/bartender/server named Karyn who handled it all with grace and expertise. Schweinne Haxen (braised pork shank)was literally fork tender and slid off the bone all with deep rich flavors. The Chicken Cordon Bleu is the best I’ve ever had in my 55 years (including my own). Potato dumplings and red cabbage were so good we order more to go for tomorrow nights meal. Desserts also so authentic. German Cheesecake was a new for us…AMAZING. And their Black Forest Cake just divine. Great find and we will be back!

My wife and I ate here last Sunday night and the food was very good. The Bavarian pretzels were a great appetizer for us to share. My wife had the Sauerbraten entree and she loved it. One of the best she has ever had. I had the Goulash entree and it was great. We also ordered potato dumplings with sauce as a side and they were delicious. Very soft and light. We were both born and raised in Queens, NY and there is a restaurant in Glendale that we consider the gold standard of German food so we can appreciate how good this German food was from Franzel. I also was pleased with the good German beer choices. We will be back very soon to try some of the other great dishes on the menu.

The server was extremely informative and very friendly. The food was delicious. We have been to Germany and found the food authentic. The decore is beautiful: photos, steins, posters, figurines, and more. I have now been to Franzel three times. Each time I order something different. I haven’t been disappointed yet. Taylor is the best server, too! I love this place!

First time visiting and was really pleased with the service and enjoyed the Draft beer. Food was very good loved the cheese and wurst appetizer and the German meatballs. Had the Schweine Haxen for dinner the gravy red cabbage and potato dumpling were excellent was a little disappointed with how braised the meat was a bit to overdone for me on the outside but the meat did fall off the bone. My wife had the schnitzel and I felt that she had made the better choice. Taylor our server was excellent very attentive and friendly. Will go back again and trying different items.

I was so looking forward to a good schnitzel and potato pancakes. I can tell they are made from scratch with fine ingredients. I tried the potato pancakes which are in the photo and couldn’t eat them because they were black and tasted burnt. I asked politely if they could be redone without being burnt and was told that’s the way they’re made. I was not charged for them but was so disappointed. I would order them again if they were made golden brown and not black. Everything else was delicious and service was excellent. We were the only ones at 2pm and it was crowded by the time we left. Atmosphere was warm and inviting. Hopefully seats will be replaced with cushioned or more comfortable. I would definitely return as the schnitzel and strudel reminded me of when I was in Germany. I hope this restaurant is successful. I researched and posted a second photo here of potato pancakes as I’m used to having so you can see how they’re shaped and the golden brown color. The dark caramelized taste was a burnt flavor. Thank you

We enjoyed our first trip here and look forward to trying more of the delicious options on the menu.
Beer cheese sauce & pretzel=great!
Potato pancakes had a slight twist=great
Sauer Braten was also great (minus a peppercorn or two). Schwine Haxen could have more “crisp” otherwise also great flavors.
Potato dumplings seemed more mashed potato like but also wonderfully flavored!
Strudel = great and the coffee was also unexpectedly very enjoyable.
Oh and the bier, I need say…it’s GERMAN.

Wunderbar. As someone with German blood and having traveled to Germany perhaps dozens of times over the last six decades, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Franzel last night. We were a party of six and though the service was a little slow and could have perhaps used a few more smiles and enthusiasm, we enjoyed ourselves very much. It’s not often I comment on the bathrooms of restaurants, but this one is a hoot. Not traditional German, but who cares.

The Haxen was really great, I could probably eat that once a week. Everyone was happy with their meal and the selection of beers.

The true test one will come one week from today when I bring my dad for his 95th birthday. Though born here, he spent much of his childhood in Germany. And maintains a great affinity for German culture and food. My mom was born in Germany and will be joining us.

Very much looking forward to round two

Edit after 2nd visit: just as good, as the first time Franx even came out to wish my dad a happy birthday in German which he really appreciated. I could easily go back at least once a month for the Schweine Haxen. My partner had the wienerschnitzel and loved it. Can’t wait to try the wursts. Next time…

A delicious taste of Germany with a fun American twist! I enjoyed a delicious lunch at Fränzel‘s. The pretzel roll Sandwiches are a must try. I love the way Franz combines delicious traditional German flavors with a modern American spin. Such is a scrumptious surprise. Und the slow cooked German dishes are absolutely packed with authentic flavor. Enjoy a crisp beer from the incredible German beer selection and enjoy some lively German music playing in the background. Must try!

Tried this restaurant for the first time. Everything was excellent from start to finish. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable plus they had a big screen TV with breath taking views of Germany playing on the wall. I had pierogies, Viena schnitzel with spetzle, and finished with apple strudel with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. The other three people in my party all complemented their dishes as well (goulash, salmon, and branzino). If you’re looking for something a little different, try this place.
