A dive bar in an old house, I love it. Didn’t meet Fran the active owner, but bless this woman in her nineties! No beer on tap. Smoking allowed. Didn’t try the food. Friendly staff and locals. One nice guy (retired pipeline mechanic) gave me a poker chip for a free drink! Near railroad tracks and crossing, I love trains! Plenty of free parking.

I’m told this place has the first liquor license in PA. Fran lives upstairs and still makes the chili, which was hearty and delicious. Be prepared for the smokey atmosphere, as Fran’s is grandfathered under non-smoking law. Fran opened this place when she was 25, in 1950’s! And it’s the only place in town to sit down for a drink. Several Beam & Cokes and a big bowl of chili–$17!!! Need I say more?

Fran’s is a typical blue collar town bar. Good food at a reasonable price. Great service with a friendly smile. Patrons who are friendly and talkative who accept visitors as friends. Brought me back to one of the many bars in the blue collar town I grew up.

Stopped in here during our visit to Meyersdale for the Pa Maple Festival. Nice little basement bar- cheap drinks, friendly staff, chatty regulars. Bob the bartender was great! Stop in here for a couple drinks and some pool if youre in the area!

Frans is the best place to go for a drink and food.bartenders are the most friendliest that you ever met. Frans is not just a bar, its a family and you will meet allot of different people who will make you laugh. I love this bar….

This place has been under the ownership and leadership of a successful woman named Fran. She opened it in 1954 and she’s still at it. Friendly patrons and staff. Come for a drink, food, jukebox and pool table.
