Friendly and fast service, reasonable prices, chill atmosphere. Glad to have a good lunch option in the neighborhood!
They claim to make everything fresh from scratch (always a noble goal), and their Turkey & Cheddar Sandwich was indeed fresh. The bread was nice, the meat was piled high, the lettuce was clean and crisp, and the cheddar was cheddary. However, it was also bland, dry, and tasteless. No mayo, no mustard, no garlic aioli, no pepper, no seasoning on the turkey. It was the beige-est of sandwiches I’ve had in a while. I had to add hot sauce for any flavor. It also wasn’t even the sandwich I came in for. I think their prices are very fair, but they were ‘OUT’ of half their menu only partway through the day!
For a restaurant that is open until 7 PM, it doesn’t seem great when you go in to order in the early afternoon and they are ‘OUT’ of half their sandwiches. And ‘OUT’ of at least one of their hot dog options. And ‘OUT’ of their macaroni salad. And ‘OUT’ of their potato salad. (If these are made from scratch, why hasn’t more been made by this time of day???) And ‘OUT’ of their sausage rolls. And ‘OUT’ of their salads (yet somehow still have lettuce for the few remaining available sandwiches, how does that work?) I mean, really, there’s a Haggen a few blocks away, go stock up so your customers have something to order.
Careful when sitting down. Whomever put together their dining chairs put one of the backs on incorrectly, as shown in the picture. Who knows how well they assembled the chair legs or tables.
Cleanliness….well, the chairs and tables appeared new and spotless. However, right next to some of the window tables a dirty rag was bunched into a corner of the window sill. And that window itself was FILTHY, as shown in the picture. If they’re leaving that mess in the public dining room for the world to see, that doesn’t bode well for what you can’t see in the kitchen.
For my first visit, Frankie’s gets 3 stars. But the place definitely has promise, all things considered. After all, their Doug’s Burgers is right next door and is one of my favorite spots in town. I’ll try again in a month and hope for the best.
Had a great French Dip and was pleasantly surprised by how good the Kolache was, little bun with great bread and a cheese and cocktail sausage filling.
Had a Reuben on a gluten-free wrap (don’t know why they don’t use the GF buns from Doug’s for sandwiches, but a wrap was a nice change!) It was excellent and cheap compared to places nearby. Also try the hot dogs! Surprisingly tasty.
1st bit of disappointment was seeing the $13 reuben advertised on their menu being ringed up for $15 before tax (came out close to $17 after tax)
2nd was when i received the takeout box. it was LIGHT.. i opened it up and the sandwich was incredibly small. i don’t know what i was expecting, but it wasn’t that. gandolfinos used to load the meat, and on bigger pieces of
bread for the same price. i came away feeling a bit ripped off. the taste was fine, nothing special – but i won’t be going back.
The big windows make for some lovely light and all the arcade games were super fun too. It’s open to Doug’s burger next door making it super easy for everyone to order what they want whether it’s a burger, fries, fresh Sammy, or Seattle dog! A great addition to the Fountain District!
