Kolacky
4-23-2021 a wet, cloudy miserable day.
But for the first time I was able to see and taste a kolacky. Yes, I said my first.
That raspberry filling was mighty fine.
The bun surrounding the filling, soft and flavorful.
What a neat old bakery.
My only regret, I live 70 miles away.
Maybe if that old hotel opens again I could stay over for the night.

Nice little local bakery. Friendly staff. Interesting local history on the walls. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.

Probably an unpopular opinion but I do find Franke’s overrated. Their staff is beyond friendly and welcoming but I think their donuts are mediocre. I have been going there for decades, as they are the only bakery in town. This last visit surprised me and the donuts were much larger and super stuffed with filling. Prices have gone up again since the last time I stopped in but I feel their product matched the increase. Their kolackies are good, but they don’t necessarily stand out to me, and I only get them during Kolacky days for family. It is nice to have an actual bakery in town, I just don’t think it is all people hype it up to be.

Have not been even slightly disappointed with any item from the bakery. If you get there early, the donuts are hot. You can’t beat it. The cronut and mocha cake are probably my favorites, but you cannot go wrong. Lovely people that work there as well!

I came in to drop off information for work since I am a rep for AT&T’s business Chanel. The lady I talked to was so nice, I could have talked to her for hours. This place had been there for 100 years and I could tell it will be for another 100

Franke’s is that small town bakery where everyone knows everyone and checks in with each other. The atmosphere is always warm, and everyone is always friendly. It doesn’t matter what you ask for ask far as baked goods, as everything is absolutely amazing! This is a great treat for our kids occasionally on the way to school. We always make sure to have fresh kolaches on hand when we have guests coming to visit from out of town. You have the option of taking your goodies to go, or you can have a seat right there in the bakery at a booth. They do have some different drink options available. You can’t go wrong, when you choose Franke’s.
Edited to add that everything is very reasonably priced and affordable.

You simply can’t get any better small town experience than visiting the local Bakery, if the town HAS one. In this case, Franke’s has been there for a century and the quality is superb. A no muss, no fuss place with great pastry and breads. Would love a bit more seating to enjoy a coffee with your treat, but there is some seating. A must go to place when in Montgomery

This would be 5 stars if the kolackys had more filling. Seems there’s little to no filing, not sure if I’ll pay $9 next year for this..

My partner in crime and I embarked on a Southern MN Donut Challenge this morning. We only compared glazed, raised donuts for uniform evaluation purposes at 3 locations-The Robin’s Egg (Northfield), Mackenthun’s (Lonsdale) and Franke’s Bakery (Montgomery). The clear winner is Franke’s Bakery in Montgomery. Seriously worth the trip.
AMAZING!
