Frank’s is considered one of the original, if not the originator of New Haven pizza classics. Signature high temp coal fired ovens are famous for their charred chewy yet crisp pizzas. Dine in…soak up the experience and sit where you can watch the open kitchen. While this place does a ton of take-out, this style and specifically these pizzas are better enjoyed unboxed, fresh from the ovens to your table. Also, nothing says family nostalgia like drinking a bottle of red table wine from small juice glasses just like Sunday Dinner @ my great grandmother’s!

The pizza tastes pretty good, but it’s like liquid it’s so messy and uncomfortable. You have to endeavor just to eat a slice. As it is, they also bring you the pizza in a raised tray, that brings the chance of messiness higher.

Atmosphere is pretty good, it’s noisy but not a lot.

And for the service, every 4 minutes somebody comes to ask you how is your meal, which is kind, but also annoying. It came pretty fast.

Frank Pepe’s pizzeria at the upper end of Chestnut Hill mall is great! 2nd time there and the pizza is still awesome. I got the sausage and roasted red pepper which had that wood fire taste to the dough. We ordered the large and between my wife and I we ate half and took the rest home. Was told to try the white pizza next time.

I’m so thrown off by my experience today. I had placed an online order at around 1240 for 2 medium pizzas for a party. It said 30-40 mins with an estimated time to pick up being 1:12pm. I got there at 1:35pm and go to the takeout line. The hostess says my order isn’t ready yet. I’m confused so I say are you sure? It says it should’ve been done 20 mins ago. She goes to the kitchen, comes back and starts whispering to another hostess. At that point, I know that my pizzas haven’t even been made yet. She tells me oh they’re in the oven now. I watch her go back to the kitchen, stick my order in the queue and ask the cooks to make my pizzas. I can’t hear her but I’m assuming that’s what’s happening. She comes back and apologizes and says it’s still in the oven and it’ll be a few minutes. But I know my pizzas have not entered that oven yet.

I stand and wait almost 20 mins. One of the hostesses says they’re just cutting up my pizza. Great. She goes back there and I see her using tongs to pick stuff off the pizza. Not sure what but she brings me the 2 pizzas and as an apology, gives me a large cheese on the house that had been sitting there the entire time I was waiting and was someone else’s pizza. When I got home, one of the pizzas was pretty burnt and I’m guessing she was trying to pick off the black bits from the burnt crust.

Overall, an extremely disappointing experience.

The ideal pizza – VERY GOOD. I loved how there was PLENTY of toppings. They use good ingredients!! The vegetarian option was truly impressive, it was almost like eating a full bowl of salad in a very tasty way. We got them delivered for a group gathering (thus no rating for ‘Atmosphere’), the pizzas were hot and fresh out of the oven, the crusts were crunchy and cheese was melting. I loved how the toppings dominated and there was minimal crust-only space/rim and it was not oily or too thick. There were spots that were a little burnt but I would expect that from a nicely baked pizza. It wasn’t too salty either (again, I’m sensitive to salt+sugar levels because I can’t deal with salty or over-the-top sweetness). I enjoyed every bite of pizzas from this place. A highly recommend.

Stopped by the Chestnut Hill location for some pizza. Definitely solid pizza for those of us that can’t make the trip directly to New Haven. Table got three medium pizzas. Went with a pepperoni, the special and half chicken Broccoli and half meatball ricotta. They were all really good. Not NH good, but still very good. If I could only do one it would probably be the special.

Not the original, but still taste fan-tab-lous. Food is incredibly, we had 4 different types of pizza and leftovers for the next day. Waitress was incredibly, very nice! Manager came out and checked on us, thank you! Best pizza in the world and I’m Italian! We are not rookies… we made reservations and I recommend you do to. I wrapped the white clam pizza as a gift for my brother! He almost cried when he opened it, he was so happy!

Came as it was in the top 5 of the pizza reviews from the bar stool sports guy who does the one bite pizza reviews. Loved it. Wasn’t expecting it to be at the end of a mall. Excuse my terminology here but just like dave portnoy said. Great under carriage, passed the flop test, delicious. Was freshly made and piping hot, which is great! Definitely would eat pizza there every time whenever i am in boston
