We usually eat in, but the place is dated and simple. So if the ambiance isnt important, this is the local place in this part of Oakland to come.
I dont eat pork or beef, so we mostly order veggie or chicken dishes. Always, egg fu yong, veggie mu shu, broccoli beef(broccoli is bright green, yet fully cooked), chicken chow mein, and for hubby mongolian beef. This is plenty for 3 adults, 2 kids, with enough leftovers for another day. Hubby traded for sweet & and sour shrimp, this time. It looked ok, but not impressive (breaded, which I dont eat). My son likes the spicy sweet sauced chicken, or kung pao chicken.
The fortune cookies are crisp, and the waitress always gives the kids candy.
Parking on MacArthur is a pain, but there is usually parking around the corner on the street, by the church on 38th.
We got the food home and I could tell the fried rice wasn’t as good as our usual place. There were barely any shrimp in the fried rice and the one I did eat tasted… off. We liked the sauce from the broccoli beef, the fresh ginger was nice, but overall it was underwhelming. Not soon after, I started to feel pretty sick and here we are the next day, suffering from food poisoning.
Lesson learned- I will not to stray from our usual spot.
For the 2 shrimp fried rice plates I was charged $31.00 wow
I didn’t get my mixed veggies and was told I added more veggies for you. I’m thinking the veggies were inside wit the rice …..
For her more veggies meant more carrots and more green onions. Idk who eats a pile of green onions, let alone me being the type of person who really doesn’t like carrots.
I sent in my boyfriend to get my money back.
Lady tried to act like she couldn’t refund me my money acted like she didn’t know how to give a refund, inspected the food to see if we touched it got mad like she was wanting to accuse us of already eating. Tried to have my boyfriend sign for my refund, I really don’t think she should be taking orders.
Have her just give out orders/drinks.
Don’t have her take orders. Don’t have her accept payment for orders.
I just don’t see how anyone can mess up what I said.
2 orders of shrimp fried rice and a order of mixed veggies.
Instead I got 5lbs of rice, a mountain of green onion nasty carrot shreds, and 3 shrimps in each container.
Smh they still haven’t given me back my money. Absolutely ridiculous
The service has been prompt and friendly (I’ve always got take away).
The location is bare bones but clean.
Chicken Chow Mein was a large portion, great flavor, and the chicken was cooked perfectly (thin cut, tender, tasty; most places overcook). I do wish the noodles were more al dente, they were a bit soft for me. There could also be more chicken.
Mongolian beef was my favorite, really tasty, pretty classic brown Mongolian sauce with Sichuan pepper.
The won ton was solid too, I can’t find better in the immediate area. Broth was good. So many won tons! They were good, shrimp and (I think) ground pork inside. Shrimp were tender (another thing many places overcook). Pork filling was kinda bland but given other flavors it’s fine. Other stuff in there: BBQ pork, chicken, squid, shrimp, maybe some beef, some greens …. But just a few pieces of each.
