Hands down the best restaurant within driving distance from Rio Rancho
We drove out to Forty Nine Forty and it was 100% worth it. This was our second visit, and somehow it just keeps getting better.

We chose to sit at the bar this time, which was such a vibe. The bartenders were super attentive, friendly, and made us feel right at home. Plus, the view into the kitchen was amazing—watching the chefs in action adds a whole new level to the experience.

And the drinks? On point. Every cocktail was balanced, smooth, and clearly made with intention.

If you’re anywhere near Rio Rancho and haven’t been yet, do yourself a favor and make the drive. This place is a gem and absolutely worth it.

Is this a joke? The service was amazing. The food was barely edible. Start with the roasted peppers, cold and sweet. Tasted like it had been in the fridge for a long time. Leek and mushroom salad had so much salt it tasted like acid. Then onto the ribeye.. how can you screw up a medium rare ribeye? Ask the chef… he will set you straight.

Meal was nearly $300 bucks for 2 and I’m still pissed.

Came here for Sunday brunch cocktails. Divine martinis. I had a lavender infused martini and my cousin had an espresso martini and we were both equally impressed. Lovely intimate atmosphere. We left like smitten kittens. Returning for dinner.

My family, a party of 16, celebrated my sister’s 50th birthday at Forty Nine Forty this past Saturday, and it was truly a delightful experience. The table was beautifully set, including two high chairs for the toddlers in our group, that made even the youngest of our family dinner feel especially well cared for.

There was clear attention to detail throughout the entire evening. Our server, Dash, was both professional and personable. The children at our table were served when the appetizers arrived, which was incredibly considerate and appreciated. Our glasses were never empty, and we never had to ask for anything—Dash was attentive at all times, seamlessly clearing plates, refilling drinks, and keeping everything flowing smoothly.

The food was incredible, and every order arrived exactly as requested. It was a wonderful evening and a perfect setting to celebrate such a special milestone. I highly recommend this venue for an extraordinary dining experience!

Worth going just for the ambience and vibe. The service staff is pretty dang good. The food is presented beautifully, but I agree with other reviewers that it is over salted and specifically the pork dish was over seasoned and perhaps could use a little more attention to the amount of time cooked on each side. One side was much more cooked and the other side was under cooked. The hamburger was ordered medium and came out rare. Also over salted. The cocktails and wine were very good. Wine seemed over priced but nice selections. The mixed green salad was not worth having. I loved the ambiance enough to rate a 4 but wouldn’t go back often based upon food preparation.

Food was so delicious and our waiter was so kind and patient! The experience was awesome itself. Price was a bit steep for portion sizes but overall the taste was amazing!

My wife and I went here for valentines dinner. When though we had reservations and there were plenty of tables available the hostess requested we wait to stagger the orders for the kitchen. We had to stand and wait until she felt it wad good enough to be seated. Even though we had reservations, instead of giving us a table they sat us at the bar when there were many tables available. The bartenders were our server and they were great. But all the activities at the bar was very distracting and we could barely hear each other. The food was good however because I was at the bar I could see into the chefs cooking. I watched the chef grab raw meat season it in his hand and rub his hands on a dirty towel then put his hand in the condiments container such as fresh cilantro or other sides he would put on the plate with his bare hands. Not once did he wash his hands. I was disappointed in the fact that for valentine’s dinner that we had reservations for that we were put at the bar and I got to see how the food is
handled. I don’t recommend for the 250 dollars we spent.

On a positive note the service was outstanding, unfortunately the food was not, My wife’s portion was small and over salted. The special I ordered was swordfish, we cook different types of fish frequently at home and I’m very particular about not overcooking, this fish was on the dry side, the fillets were small and not high quality and the sauce was over salted. When charging $50 for an entree it should be outstanding the filet should be top quality this was not the case. The room we were seated in was very crowded with more tables than there should be for the size. We were probably seated at the worst of the seating, we were in front of the kitchen the bar and the restroom, my chair legs were kicked several times by wait staff serving tables around us. A final bill of over $170 for two people was not a good value. I do not mind paying a premium price for premium food but this food was not on that level. The food and atmosphere were not on par with the price.

We were wowed by the experience! My wife had the dinner special barramundi. She loved it. I had the burger with a salad-so delicious. The server was extremely attentive and friendly. So nice. The young man who brought the dishes was on it. The bartender was beyond excellent. He came up with a delicious drink for my wife. The dessert was the perfect ending to an excellent meal and experience. We sat in the Fancies side of the restaurant and were very comfortable.

We’ve dined here for dinner and had a great experience but we got curious about their brunch menu this Sunday. I was so pleasantly surprised to see a shrimp roll with poached egg featured! It’s rare to find a perfectly poached egg around here so I hardly order it (even though they’re my favorite) but Forty Nine Forty does it right!! Close up in photos for reference;) The fries and aioli were delicious and they managed to make my son’s scrambled egg and potatoes exceptionally delicious. Can’t wait to come back.
