I’ve been eating here for years. However this last experience of take out shrimp fried rice tasted like left over food warmed up. The appearance was dark in color and the taste was not good. When I called in the man on the phone told me food is cooked on order. Well this one didn’t taste like it and appearance is dried out. Period! End of conversation.

On the heels of writing a very negative review, below, based on my last dining experience at Fortune House some months back, I’ve edited it to reflect today’s experience. There are now many Korean and Thai restaurants near my home, but Chinese restaurants have dwindled and tonight I was in the mood for Chinese, so I gave Fortune House one more chance. I left my initial review intact below but wanted to update to say that maybe it was just a desperately bad night from my negative experience a few months back, because tonight, admittedly I ordered something different, they were back on track and it was excellent. The 4 stars reflects roughly 15 years of largely satisfying food and the one dreadful experience I had with the lo-mein. I didn’t chance the lo-mein again, but we enjoyed our egg foo yung, crab rangoon, egg rolls and shrimp fried rice. So, tonight was very redeeming.
Don’t enjoy piling on, but I’ve been a 15+ year customer of Fortune House and have been a fan, but the last experience I had, customized lo-mein with tofu, was so bad that I have decided to not give them another chance-it was that bad. I tried to make my own sauce because it was as if they hadn’t put any on, and what little that was on there was unrecognizable to me as a sauce beyond brown water. Sorry, but for the money things cost, I am not willing to chance it again. Could be new ownership? Maybe they’re winding down? Whatever it is, feels like it’s being run into the ground. Get new owners, new cooks, advertise that and maybe I’ll try again, but at this point, it’s an unfortunate and sorry NO for me. There were some great memories.

I love this place! My absolute favorite Chinese place around. It’s out of the way for me but well worth it. I enjoy their shrimp with lobster sauce! Out of all places around Fortune House consistently has always made the best out of anywhere I’ve tried . I’ve never had a bad experience here. They are great and I highly recommend.

I used to order from here prior to 2020 on a regular basis. I stopped when one of my orders took an hour and a half to arrive. I saw they were on Uber and tried again. Their own staff delivers and cannot track your order. Food is worse and dry lo Mein and fried rice and over salted not worth $50 charge. Rude phone staff as well .

Ordered delivery, food came burrnt, not over cooked, it was black! called to complain and was told I the only way to get credit on my card, was come in and then they would give me credit. They expected me to go to them for correct their mistake. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! They used to have great food and service, but not anymore. Stay away!

Called in my ordered and was told it would be roughly 50.00. I thought that was very high for just orange chicken and rice. I pay and take my food. In my car I noticed 2 separate receipts with 2 different amounts. It’s my order but one was $10.00 cheaper. I go back in and ask what’s up. Right away the girl at the counter offered to give me the difference of the 2 receipts. No questions asked, no investigation? So are they overcharging and pocketing the extra

Ordered food tonight and specifically noted No Mushrooms, no onions and no bean. Called and asked for a manager and the person wanted to argue with me . He told me he hoped I died and go to the hospital. When called back I was told I was yelling when how could I the only person yelling was him!!! The receptionist then also hung up on me while laughing. I get they are teenagers who answer the phone but come on , no one can have customer service. Mistakes happen but telling someone to die and go to the hospital is no mistake.

Aesthetics and presentation bait you into this Lunch special L5…Shrimp Egg Foo Young, Gravy, Fried Rice, Egg Roll, and Orange Crush. I really love that the gravy is served separate from the egg foo young. The shrimp are approximately 1.15 inches and tender. Eggs a soft yellow. Rice tender and flavorful with bean sprouts, green onion and egg. Egg roll vegetables tender. Overall, great choice for lunch today. No shortcuts on the lunch special, cannot wait to purchase a dinner. Cashier patient and cordial. My new venue for Chinese dining west of Chinatown Chicago.

Fortune house used to be at least tolerable in regards to chinese food, but my last few visits there have me finally throwing in the towel. Even simple rice or Lo Mein dishes seem to be challenging for them. Yesterday’s Chicken Lo Mein was an undercooked glob of paste with soy sauce and spaghetti noodles. The check out service was good though.

I usually don’t make reviews but when it’s this bad it’s only right. I spent $100 here. Every aspect of the food was bland. The rice included. The shrimp and scallop spicy was okay. The BBQ pork is dry n coated in what taste like store bought bbq sauce. But the real villain was the Lucky 7 chef special. Meat is a soggy mess. The sauce is probably the worst I’ve had in a long time. Gelatinous. Weird taste to it. For a spot to charge what they charge I expected a whole lot better. First n last time up there.
