Forte’s on the Square reminds me of this restaurant I used to go to way back in the 1980s in all the right ways.
The service was fast and friendly. Shout out to even our busboy that was pretty funny and even offered ice waters to go. I think that was the first time a busboy ever offered me anything!
The food was quite tasty and plentiful from start to finish. I’m not sure if they weigh their prime rib when they cut them, but it seemed a lot larger than 12 ozs. Not that I’m complaining.
I will definitely be back!

Our main course was flawless and the portions were large. Absolutely incredible meal. Service wasn’t the best but not the worst. I had to remind our server a few times about our drink order. She also hovered around a little much making small talk. A bit frustrating when you’re on a date. The restaurant overall was cozy and inviting. Had good charm and was clean. The bar area looked a bit disheveled but wasn’t off putting. I can’t wait to go back.

This was our first time at Forte’s. Everything was great! Our server was Jen and she was so sweet and great to have conversations with. The key lime pie martini was the best. Chicken Mediterranean with spinach was excellent, all the flavors were paired flawlessly. The apple cinnamon pork chops were amazing! We got dessert to go and it was excellent as well. We can’t wait to go back!

We had reservations, so we were seated when we arrived. Our server, Alanna, was wonderful. She was very attentive and helpful with the menu. The food was hot and delicious. This is a great place to have a fantastic meal with family, friends, or on a date. The atmosphere is also very nice.

If you’re looking for a hidden gem of an Italian restaurant in a small town, this isn’t it. Menu variety is average. The wine list is short with no Italian wines, and none of the selections are particularly good. The lack of even 1 Chianti was a surprise. My wife ordered the prime rib, which was decent. I ordered the veal parmesan, only to be told it was not available, so I settled for the spaghetti and meatballs. The portions were large, but the food quality was just average. The sauce was short on garlic and had a kind of soapy flavor to it. The French onion soup was unremarkable. The German chocolate cake and peach cobbler were the best part of the meal. We spent well over $100 for a disappointing anniversary dinner. The food wasn’t terrible, and the staff did their best with the people they had, but the experience wasn’t worth anywhere near the price. We won’t be going back.

As a huge fan of Fortes under prior ownership, I stopped going after two visits under the new ownership and told myself I needed to wait a while before visiting again. Last night was that night. My wife and our friend showed up at around 6PM on a Friday, and found plentiful parking. We chose to sit at the bar, which was a great decision because bartender Chris provided exceptional service. My wife and her friend both ordered a cocktail and enjoyed the drinks immensely. We started our dinner with an order of the Confused Shrimp, a Forte’s staple. The shrimp came out piping hot, nicely plated and smothered in the sauce we all know and love. We all enjoyed the dish, and it was back on par to how it used to be. We all ordered a different main dish; myself the Mama’s Tortellini, my wife the Chicken Alfredo, our friend the Shrimp Prima Vera. Each plate was a hearty serving, enough that we all took boxes home. My main issue with my prior visits were the inconsistency in their sauces and the toughness of their chicken. Those issues have been resolved. The Parmesan breaded chicken in my dish was cooked perfectly, tender with a bit of a crisp added in every bite. The creamy tomato sauce was indulgent and made every bite enjoyable. Jason, the owner, came out to say hello at one point, and it was good to see him there. When we left around 7:20, the restaurant was completely empty and we were 1 of 2 cars parked out front. If you’ve stopped visiting Fortes, I urge you to give them another try. I’m glad I did. Now if only their page would unblock me on Facebook so I can share this good review there, too!

I ordered the cheesesteak and substituted American cheese for provolone I asked for sweet potato fries instead of regular fries.
The bun of the sandwich was black inside. The sweet potato fries were tough and burnt. I miss the old fortes.. The food was not up to standard. I wish I could post pictures of the food. There were more onions and peppers and mushrooms on the sandwich. Then there was beef. I don’t usually complain or anything all right bad reviews, but I’m sorry this was a big disappointment compared to the way this restaurant used to be. It used to be one of mine and my daughter‘s favorites, I would not bring anybody there again.

More of a note to the owner on what not to do when there is a problem in the kitchen. There were 7 of us that arrived at 5:30 and the restaurant was basically empty. A few ordered salads and some ordered soup. While our first, and in some cases only beverage was served for the night timely, the salads and soup were 45 minutes in the making. By this time the restaurant was mostly full and a table of 8-10 were seated next to us. That table, as well as most of the restaurant, were served their meals, desserts, paid, and left before our table received our meals. We politely asked what was going on and the young lady serving us, rather embarrassed, said she was trying to get our meals to us. As we approached two hours of waiting for our meals and refills to our first drinks, our orders finally arrived. Needless to say, everyone shared just how disappointed they were with their meal. From being served cold, extremely undercooked vegetables, to dried out pasta, and rubber chicken. Certainly not worth the two hour wait. Meanwhile, the owner visited every table, several times with the table next to ours, yet never once stopped by ours until everyone was finished and getting ready to pay our bill. It was then that we learned, or was told, that a cook had quit and they were backed up in the kitchen. Certainly, something that can/could cause problems, and yet, everyone that arrived after us was now paid and gone. Things happen, however, there was no attempt to “make it right” for anyone in the group, or any real apologies for that matter. Not a good business model for sure.

Moved to Crossville 6 months ago and decided to try Forte’s because of the reviews. Was not a good experience. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs with a side salad and some French onion soup. Soup was good but had provolone instead of Gruyère as advertised. Home made sauce was terrible and the noodles had a mushy texture. Meatballs were ok. Had some bitter bites of salad and the Italian dressing was bland. My wife’s veggies came out cold. The shrimp with garlic sauce was not good. Won’t be going back. Pricey for the low quality of food we had. Their sauce needs redone. Service was very good. I’m bummed because now I have to drive to Cookeville for some decent Italian food or make it at home. Italian food doesn’t seem to be Forte’s forte.
