The sandwich and slaw was brought to me outside and my first thought was “will I be able to zip my riding jacket after eating this?” There is a generous portion of brisket and it comes with four homemade pickle slices and a small container of slaw on the side for the sandwich. Sorry, I downed a pickle and poured the slaw on the sandwich before thinking about a picture for the review. The bun was fresh and the brisket was delicious. The slaw was delicious and the cabbage/carrots still had crunch to it, very fresh.
They have bottled products for drinks in a refrigerator with a good selection of soda, water, and teas.
I paid $22 all in, and it was worth every penny!
If you’re in the Hershey area and you’re looking for some quiet spot to get away from the tourist crowds and eat some very good BBQ, give Forrest Feed Company a try.
Inside is an ordering counter with chalkboard menu in front of it, along with 2 medium sized tables and a short stretch of overhang along the wall. On a good weather day, there’s a picnic table outside. Bottom line, not too many places to sit on a busy day.
I ordered from the menu from their website which has “The Smokestack” for $12 (not listed on the chalkboard menu). I had thought it was a platter, but it’s only a sandwich, so to me it’s a bit pricey, granted they did give me a lot of proteins. Per the menu description for The Smokestak: smoked brisket and pulled pork smothered with Blacksmith BBQ sauce, with sharp cheddar, bacon, and pickled pepper and onions. Unfortunately, the pepper and onions were missing. That said, the meat was cooked really nice – moist, tender, and tasty. The bacon, on the other hand, was tough and cold.
The staff/manager was friendly, and they take credit cards. The restroom was clean. Overall, a great place for BBQ.
We tried the number 4 jack and jill we cut the brisket and pulled pork sandwich in half so we could try both meats. Our dog even enjoyed some of the meat.
More flavor in the meat. I enjoyed the macaroni and cheese spin with bacon and tomatoes. Their baked beans and potatoes salad where 5 stars. The young men working there were friendly. The outside eating was perfect for a summer day!
Brisket was fine, some pieces juicy some dry. Mac-n-cheese was craamy and tasty. Slaw was standard. Ribs were absolutely terrible, over salted and dry.
Improvements suggested. Slaw needs less mayo and more tang and pepper.
Ribs were likely not basted or sprayed enough and likely not wrapped for the final temperature rise. Way, way less salt in the rib rub.
Brisket has potential.
Excellent service and very friendly.
