Years ago, I lived in Westminster and this was my family’s go to for Chinese food. While recently in the area, we decided to dine in – which was nice as we always ordered carry out in the past! Service was fast. Food portions were HUGE and you could get several meals out of one. The food was just as good as it was years ago. Pork fried rice was delicious and had a lot of additions. General Tso was great – quality chicken and it wasn’t overly spicy. Glad we decided to dine in while in town! Highly recommend. They do a ton of carry out orders!

The meal was excellent! I used to reside in Westminster, and my preferred Chinese restaurant had unfortunately closed. I contacted my sister to inquire about her recommendations, and she suggested Forbidden City. When I called to place my order, it was approximately 30 minutes before closing time. It is generally understood that it is not ideal to visit an establishment so close to closing, as service industry employees work diligently and still have tasks to complete after hours. Despite feeling a bit hesitant, I decided to proceed with my order. I requested my favorite American Chinese dish. They thoughtfully informed me that it was prepared Cantonese style, which I appreciated as it prevented any potential misunderstanding about receiving an incorrect order. While I personally did not favor that particular style, it was purely a matter of preference and there was nothing inherently wrong with the dish. A notable aspect was the clear communication when I called; the person who answered the phone was easy to understand and explained that my preferred dish was quite distinct from what is typically offered at most Chinese restaurants. I initially considered trying it but ultimately decided to order an alternative as a backup. The staff were pleasant, and the food was fresh, even close to closing time. The shrimp portion was generous, and my backup order was delicious. I did not particularly enjoy the egg rolls, as they were primarily filled with cabbage. I personally prefer those that include shrimp and red pork. The fried dumplings were perfectly crispy on one side but soft on the other. I do not believe they were rushed; rather, everything seemed very fresh. Although I did not care for the taste of everything I ordered, with the exception of my main dish which served as my backup, I am pleased that I did not dislike the entire meal. I can certainly understand why many people enjoy this establishment, even if it wasn’t entirely to my personal taste. They did an excellent job, and I wish my palate had agreed more. I would consider visiting again when I am in the mood to try something different.

Food looked good, nice presentation.
Not very tasty.
Pretty bland. The waiter made us clean our table by asking for used dishes to be passed to him. That is not Restaurant etiquette! I was Sooo turned off. We will not be Returning

I know a lot of folks love Forbidden City, partially cause they have been around a long time..the service was great, very attentive staff but I will say that the good could be better. There are nicer Asian restaurants in Westminster and I think I would gravitate to them for what I find to be more authentic and tasty meals. The atmosphere was a little loud.

My wife and I are visiting Westminster MD on an extended weekend getaway. This was our second experience at Forbidden City Chinese Restaurant. The staff are very welcoming, professional and attentive; excellent service!!

Each time my wife ordered Shrimp and Broccoli – every ingredient was fresh and the shrimp are large.

Each time I ordered shrimp egg foo young (Cantonese Style) – that is the twist…. very savory gravy and loaded with vegetables and flavor!

Each time I compliment the meal with Asian Plum Wine (very cold) and my wife has a glass of Merlot.

HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Westminster MD.

Our 2nd time here and loved it as much as we did our first time. Brought our family this time and everyone enjoyed their meals. It was fantastic! I could taste every flavor in my meal. Large portions, attentive waiter and well decorated restaurant. Highly recommend this place. You can’t go wrong with anything on their large menu. We will definitely keep coming back. (I got the garlic chicken which is the 2nd photo)Thank you

Forbidden City is always great! Nice, clean restaurant with a very friendly waiting staff. Many of the waiters have been there for several years and know their clientele. The soups are good. The appetizers are always good and they have a large selection of entrees. A great place for carry out as well. This is our go-to place for chinese food.

We are new to the area and this restaurant was one of three recommended the try. First impressions was that they were busy both dine in and take out…good sign. We ordered for take out the combination Lo Mein, Moo Goo Gai Pan, Wonton Soup and spicy Shrimp Fried Rice. First, I have to agree with the previous reviewer, the portion does not match the price tag. All dishes had good flavor except the Wonton Soup (different look and taste very bland). The shrimp fried rice was very delicious until you got to the middle of the carton. The taste change as you got midway as it was no longer spicy, the peas were firm and the shrimp lack fried rice taste (fried rice not cook in the batch). We will give it another shot, but dining in for the lunch menu next time. Will keep you posted.

We hadn’t been to Forbidden City in a few years. We decided to give it another try because we were right around the corner. This was by far the worst sesame chicken and orange chicken we have ever had. The sesame was like shoe leather. It was harder to eat than beef jerky. The orange chicken was off and tasted awful. For $18 an entree, it should have been better. We will go to China Inn or drive to Littlestown from now on.
