Travelers! Be sure to double-check the tip when you pay at this restaurant. There were only two of us, but they automatically added an 18% tip to the bill. If you’re not used to the U.S. tipping system, you might accidentally tip twice since they already add one on without you noticing. When we questioned it, they said it was because they only have three people working in the kitchen. I told them that may be their problem, but it’s not a good reason to force customers to pay a tip.

Also, the service wasn’t great. Our food came out late. The steamed vegetables that were supposed to come with the fried rice or before the main dishes. But it didn’t arrive until after we had already finished eating. We tried to cancel it, but they said no at first, and only after the manager came did they finally cancel it.

The quality of the raw seafood ingredients I had, clams, oysters, crab, were all really great! I wish they spend more attention on the quality of the oil they use. The doneness (火侯) of the seafood were perfect. It’s a huge shame that the taste and level of quality is reduced by the lower graded quality of oil. The Peking duck skin is not crisp at all and it’s cold, I was worried that I would get sick from poor HACCP practice for the duck. Soup and fried rice were just average. If I were to ever go back would only order everything steam without any oil and maybe would be a better experience.

We ordered the lobster dish along with several other dishes, including beef and clams. The food was tasty and flavorful, and it wasn’t overly seasoned with salt. The issue we had was with the service. Each plate arrived one at a time instead of all together, as is typical in a family-style restaurant. We didn’t notice until our third dish arrived, long after we had finished the previous dishes to avoid them getting cold. We were a small group and we also saw other tables (some larger group) receive their dishes properly. It seemed to be either a mistake by our server or a miscommunication in the kitchen. Either way, no apology or explanation was offered. Additionally, our server was a bit pushy, as if trying to rush us to order. Overall, the food was good, but the dining experience left something to be desired.

Awesome live seafood. Lobster is a great deal it was a good sized lobster. Amazing, especially for the price. Cooked perfectly. Live crab also delicious though much more expensive was $30 a pound. I recommend the Peppery Salt option for all seafood. Hot and sour soup was also excellent. Lots of ordering options with all the regular Chinese dishes. Fresh ingredients. We have tried 3 Chinese seafood restaurants locally this past week, Fook Yuen was the absolute best of them all. Attentive staff and excellent service. You will be glad that you tried this restaurant.

The capital pork and tofu dishes were good. The pig intestines were tasty, but you got to get past the smell. The lobster was on special, but was a bit disappointing. It was small and dry. There was no sauce to it. I would probably not get the lobster next time.

Overall good spot, would consider revisiting. Lobster and fish was pretty fresh and tasty. Walnut shrimp was delicious as well. It is very busy here so I would recommend getting in waitlist or reserving in advance.

A friend took us to Fook Yuen first day when we arrived at Honolulu. It is not located at the tourist hotel spot but only a few minutes driving from Waikiki. It is authentic Cantonese food. It’s chicken is the best of the several Chinese restaurants we visit. So we went there again just for it’s chicken couple days later. I would recommend roasted duck and beef fried rice. It is still very busy after 9pm on week day evening. If you are looking for the traditional Cantonese food but don’t want to visit those located at the tourist location, this is the one referred by local Chinese.

Exceptional service and vast menu. Friendly especially with a visit from the manager. No need to look through menu just tell them what you want. We had duck, lobster, spare rib- all were amazingly fresh and delicious. Red bean soup for dessert best I ever had. I was also impressed with how fast food came out because the dining area was wall to wall packed with patrons. 6pm on a weeknight, expect a wait but well worth it.
