The place wasn’t very busy when we visited for lunch on the weekday. We got a Fogg Temple ($6) which has orange, mango, guava, gingerale, and grenadine as well as a Mango Passionfruit Mojito ($6). To be honest, couldn’t really tell these drinks apart.
Came here because I found out they serve Prime Rib ($30) everyday. Most places you can only get this on Sunday evenings. The price is pretty good since you get Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, and veggies. The prime rib was bit thin but it was nicely medium-rare. It had a big portion of fat. But that was tasty when combined with the yorkie. Au jus was a bit too salty.
Also got the ChickenFajitas ($23). This was served on a sizzling Plate (reminiscent of Red Robin days). I thought the chicken meat was a bit on the dry side but it did come with salsa, sour cream, and all the fixins.
We also had the Chicken Wings ($19) Chili Lime and Sriracha Lime half ‘n half. The sriracha was a saucier type of coating and not too spicy. The chili lime was a drier type of coating and not spicy at all.
For the price, it’s not bad and their menu selection looked fairly extensive.
• Steak Frites – 8 oz chargrilled New York, truffle garlic fries, coleslaw
• Prime Rib – with mashed potatoes, Yorkshire Pudding, vegetables
• Peppercorn New York – 8 oz New York chargrilled, peppercorn sauce, vegetables, mashed potatoes
• Chicken Wings – honey garlic
• Dry Ribs – deep fried pork tossed in salt and pepper
Today, we tried… sirloin steak with prawns, which was reasonably priced at $27 on Sundays. We’ll definitely return, as it’s comparable to Cactus Club’s steak and Fritz. The prime rib was flavorful, and the mashed potatoes were rich with milk and butter. The vegetables were cooked, unlike last time, and the bread pudding remained crispy. My husband loved it.
The spicy mango wings had a unique flavor and were deliciously saucy. We also had one Bellini and two glasses of Fat Tug IPA beer.
When paying the bill, the meal would have scored 100, but the waitress’s parting comment, “Ok.. see you next Sunday. I’ll be here, hahahaha” sounded sarcastic. If not for that, it would have been a perfect score.
My husband asked if Sundays between 2 pm and 4 pm are usually quiet, as he’d like to return then, expecting better food and service without the noise. Our previous Sunday visit was disappointing, with subpar food, service, and excessive noise. I paid $95 plus an 18% tip.
Service was good as well.
I’d certainly come here again if I’m happen to be in Richmond and also craving some Prime Rib It’s a great deal for $30!
Is this the only Fogg N’ Suds restaurant around?
If you want a pub feel but with a cleaner environment and with good quality food and good vibe then just go see Laura and May. They will treat you like family :).
