We opened our first bakery in the South End in 2000 with one goal: to make the world a sweeter place through warm smiles, gooey sticky buns, and irresistible BLTs. Every day we pinch ourselves that we get to do what we love – share awesome food and welcoming hospitality – with everyone who walks through our doors and visits us here. Led by James Beard Award-winning pastry chef + co-owner Joanne Chang, Flour Bakery now has nine locations in Boston + Cambridge. We offer buttery breakfast pastries; soft + chewy cookies; luscious pies; gorgeous cakes; and fresh, made-to-order sandwiches, soups, and salads – all prepared daily by our dedicated team.

Great little and very busy lunch spot!
I really like the achiote chicken sandwich with the jicama

This place is busy! But well worth the wait, which wasn’t terribly long because the staff keeps it moving, like wow. I was impressed by how many orders were just coming out so quickly. The sticky bun is pleasantly delicious! I ordered the salmon bun and the tried the tomato basil soup. Others had the chicken sandwich and spinach pastry- which were all praised. The matcha and the Chai is good too! It’s a cute and yummy spot to visit for sure!!!

Everything at Flour is so damn good that I am glad I don’t live too close to Flour or I’d spend my whole salary there.
If you’re in Boston, go visit and try at least some coffee and a pastry – everything is fantastic. All the savory options are also incredible. And I also recommend the delicious granola to bring home.

I never had any food from this location just the pastries. My favorite is the Lola cookie, definitely a must try. I write this review because I just left out of this location and both of the ladies that were in the front ignored me for a good five minutes. I don’t want to make anything racial, but soon as another white lady came and stood behind me the workers looked up and then started to serve me. At that moment, I should’ve walked out, but I still wanted what I came in the store for. And I feel like if the other lady did not walk in, I would still be standing at the counter, waiting to be served. So Management, please retrain the ladies upfront even if they were busy they could’ve at least reassured me and said I will be right with you, but there was silence. Nothing, I barely got any eye contact. Do better.

They didn’t have Boston Cream Pie but they had many other pastries and the sticky buns were great. They also had plenty of other food like salad and sandwiches which were good as well. They also had a chocolate chip cookie which was good but not the best. Overall I would recommend this place.

Cozy atmosphere and great bakery selection. We enjoyed the quiche and breakfast sandwich. The food is of good quality and flavor. We also ate a sticky bun, the caramel sauce and pecans are the perfect combination.

The food here is hella good and a great value. There are a lot of options from breakfast sandwiches to wraps and salads. All the pastries are superb. The bread is awesome and the food is fresh. The coffee and tea are of great quality. It is also a good spot to come and get a little work done.

September 27, 2023: The cucumber spritzer is gone! How is this possible? I had one just last week. An employee said it was a summer special. The new drink, cherry vanilla spritzer is quite good, but nothing like that amazing cucumber seltzer. The bread on the roast beef sandwich was thick and not tasty like previously. Salmon salad is excellent.
August 20, 2023: There are several new drinks and they are all excellent: Lemon limeade and the cucumber spritzer. The cucumber is my new favorite drink. The lamb sandwich has disappeared . I tasted the coconut cake and the birthday cake. Birthday cake is lovely. Flour’s coconut cake is as good or even better than the one Tom Cruise orders from Doan’s Bakery for his friends.
Update: June 20, 2023. There is a new version of the lamb sandwich and it is a delight. I miss the tomato chutney from the 2008-2014 lamb sandwich version. If there is anyway Flour can make the tomato chutney and charge a fee, people would buy it. That chutney with the lamb sandwich was magical.
Also tried the sparkling rhubarb drink, which is fantastic and unlike any soda I’ve ever tasted. Totally recommend.
Old review: The Cubano had a lot of ham, crunchy pickles, and flavorful mustard. All the flavors combined well. One of the best Cubanos I’ve ever tasted. The cupcake with the blackberry frosting was very good. Flour had run out of the lemon-lime soda that is used to top off the raspberry seltzer so they offered to top off with ginger ale. The Flour Bakery at this location on Washington Street in the South End was the first one and still the best.
