For toppings, I kept it balanced. I chose a salad base, added cucumbers and onions, then finished it with the white yogurt based sauce and the orange hive sauce, which is sweet and savory.
The combination honestly worked really well. The chicken had a nice sweet and spicy flavor, the vegetables added freshness and crunch, and the sauces tied everything together without overpowering it. The Doritos added texture and a bit of extra flavor that made it different from a typical bowl.
Overall, it was a solid meal. I would definitely recommend giving it a try, especially if you like building your own bowl with a little twist.
The only thing I would recommend possibly changing are the stools against the wall. Would be nice to have some normal chairs since I didn’t have any place to hang my coat. Just a personal preference. Definitely a bit limited in space capacity.
Overall, I’m glad Flavor Hive made its way to Maryland. I would recommend 100%
It’s also hard to categorize the cuisine. It doesn’t fully feel Middle Eastern or Mexican. The proteins range from hot honey chicken to ground beef, while the toppings lean Middle Eastern with chickpeas, cucumbers, and tomatoes, but then they throw in cilantro and fried onions. The overall identity is a bit confusing.
I even brought my own bag of chips, since that seems like the main appeal of the place. If you order a rice bowl or anything beyond the chips, the price starts to feel high, especially when you could get something like Chipotle for less. My takeaway is it’s worth trying once out of curiosity, but I’m not convinced it justifies the cost compared to simply getting a solid shawarma or another clearly defined option.
The system is mostly there, but the staff could probably use a bit more training on the details. Things like making sure side sauces actually make it into the bag and keeping the line orders straight would go a long way. Overall though, friendly staff and quality ingredients
