A special shout-out to Lottie, who looked after us on the day. Her service was exceptional — professional, attentive, and incredibly patient. She made the whole experience even more enjoyable.
We’ll definitely be back!
Mozambique prawns is good. Fragrant, creamy, hint of spicy and vinegar/citrus.
Steak is mediocre.
A special mention to Carlota and Melody, who were absolutely wonderful with us from the start. Their recommendations were spot on and really make our experience even better!!
The wines were excellent, the cocktails were delicious, and the barman the Scottish Maci was amazing!! M the food was simply outstanding. We highly recommend this restaurant, not only for the quality of the food and the stunning setting, but also for the exceptional service.
If you have the chance to be looked after by Carlota, Melody & Maxi, you’re in great hands. We would happily return.
The food was honestly impressive:
• Mozambique Prawns: These were cooked to perfection. The Spicy Rattlesnake sauce is brilliant—really balanced heat. The rice was spot on too, nice and separate grains that soaked up the sauce beautifully without getting gluggy.
• Rib-Eye (350g): I ordered this medium and the chef nailed it. Great char on the outside with a nice smoky BBQ flavour. The fat was rendered down perfectly so it just melted in your mouth, didn’t feel greasy at all.
• Sides & Sauce: We got the fries which were good. I added the mushroom sauce on the side—it was tasty, but to be honest, the steak had so much flavour from the grill itself that you don’t really need the extra sauce. One tip: would love to see a fresh salad option as a side just to balance out the richness of the meat.
Service was top-notch. It was our first time here and the staff were super patient explaining the menu and looking after us.
Definitely a case of “you get what you pay for.” Quality food and great service. We’ll be back.
Unfortunately the warm welcome was not extended to us from the front of house staff. They were curt, dismissive and unaccomodating. We understand things can get busy and hectic, but clear communication and understanding is always appreciated. Our experience with our waiter and bar staff had improved our perspective on the service we received at flame.
We got the platter for two and upgraded to a 350g rib eye. While the platter is on the pricier side, it is definitely worth it in value as it was easily enough food for 4 people. The steak was beautifully cooked and tender. The mash, and mushroom sauce were also highlights. The ribs on the other hand were found to be quite tough, however the sauce it was coated in was beautiful. Additionally we found the chicken breast to be rather dry, the legs however were moist and well cooked.
For drinks we only tried the salted caramel espresso martini but it was beautifully made, well balanced but not too sweet at all. All the flavors work well together.
Overall, if you are hoping for a good meal in a beautiful location and are not too bothered by service, flame would be a great way to spend a meal.
All dishes recommended in the pic, especially the Mozambique Sprawn and the Fries coming with the ribs (Best fries we’ve had in our trip across NZ).
The waiters seems to be too busy to simply get our check. Finally paid out bill with several attempts to 3 different waiters.
Rocked up late and only spot available was at the bar. At first thought we were like hmmmm..
But to our surprise 2 talented drink chefs greeted us instantly. Shofu and Charlie were their names. With a friendly rivalry between the two and having the best seat in the house I was quickly under cover as a boss critiquing their service and drink making ability.
It was down to the wire with 1 more round to go. Espresso Martinis were ordered. The pressure was on.
The break down:
10/10 banter
10/10 service
10/10 presentation
10/10 taste
But there is only 1 winner and that was US!!
Oh the food was amazing aswell.
Love undercover boss
