My cousin and I were driving on the highway when a severe storm hit and a tornado warning went off on our phones telling us to take shelter immediately. A tornado had been sighted nearby, and according to the radar we were driving straight into it. We got off the highway as fast as we could and the first open place we saw was this Five Guys.
We ran inside while tornado sirens were actively going off and the storm was getting worse. We were shaken and just looking for somewhere safe to wait it out. When we explained the situation, the girl at the register simply said, “Well, we close in seven minutes so… yeah, you should probably go to Target down the street, they’re open later and have less windows.” While she may have had a point about the windows, the way it was said felt dismissive—like we were being pushed out rather than helped during an emergency. The rest of the staff just stared at us silently, which made an already stressful situation even more uncomfortable.
We had to run back outside during active sirens and heavy winds and rush to Target. Ironically, Target was also closing within minutes—but they immediately welcomed us into their storm shelter without hesitation. No one acted annoyed. They understood that safety comes first.
I understand that closing time usually means customers need to leave. But when there’s an active tornado warning and sirens are going off, basic human safety should matter more than the clock. Thankfully, no tornado ended up touching down, but it was terrifying in the moment—and Five Guys showed a serious lack of compassion and judgment.
I hope management reconsiders how situations like this are handled in the future.
My sandwich was so good, the cheese was extra melty, oozy and delicious and they got those onions and peppers just perfect. While it wasn’t a traditional Patty Melt, it was really darned good. I only ate half because I got full on all of those fries. We always regret getting the regular size, there is so much there! I actually have some in my bag that I took home, I swear next time, get the small, its enough for two.
My husband’s sandwich was perfect of course. He ate every last bite. The store had freestyle coke machines which I really appreciate. I love being able to get Mello Yello Zero in cherry and limeade, its the best! Thanks Five Guys for a great lunch!
With a price of $6.26 for a regular fry, you can imagine my shock when I arrived home and found a very SMALL heavily over salted fries in my bag.
Five Guys, shame on you!
A 10lbs bag of potatoes is $6 bucks at Walmart!!
Feels like a Bait and switch.
I’ll stick with Smash burger or one of the other fast service spots. Wendy’s maybe….
