@diningwithdirk: Valentine’s Day edition to myself. Knees are weak, palms are sweaty at Fish Bar Savannah. Putting on my Sunday best a day early. The moment the door opens, a warm dimness settles in — and you can’t help but love it.
From behind the bar, Maren and Emma (Em & M, if you will) set the tone for the night.
I kicked things off with a half dozen of today’s oysters topped with pink peppercorn dressing — chilled and delightful, like a brisk February morning in Savannah.
Next up: charred cabbage. Who likes cabbage? Apparently, I do now. I peeled it away piece by piece, and somehow it got better with every bite.
Just when you think we’re done, out comes the flounder filet with a golden raisin gramolata Absolutely mouthwatering. Bringing things to a close, the neighborhood never disappoints, I wrapped up the night meeting a couple of new neighbors — plus a first, second, and third-born trifecta.
Do yourself a favor and put Fish Bar Savannah at the top tier for food and service in Savannah.

We had reservations at Fishbar to celebrate our wedding anniversary in early January. We arrived early to enjoy a cocktail on the back patio which is absolutely fantastic. After drinks, we were escorted to our table which had a congratulatory card acknowledging our celebration. Our server Mahryah, was very attentive. We had oysters for an appetizer, and shrimp and sea bass entrees for our main meals. Mahryah suggested the potatoes with squid aioli for a side, which we would highly recommend.

While we didn’t feel our main dishes were taking long, the manager brought two glasses of Rose to our table as a way to celebrate our day, but also to acknowledge that the sea bass was taking longer than planned. While unnecessary and unexpected, it was a nice touch. Our meal ended with a delicious chocolate tort on the house that we shared.

The ambiance, special details, and attentive staff are all reasons we would highly recommend this gem. Reservations recommended, and while we didn’t do it, you can also request chefs seating. Enjoy as we did.

The first three dishes we got were some of the best dishes we’ve ever eaten at a restaurant (and we’ve been to 3 Michelin 1 star restaurants). We really enjoyed the Puffed Frena Bread, Charred Savoy Cabbage, and Rhode Island Calamari Skewers.

The flavors were deep, rich, but not too heavy, had enough acidity, and had just the right balance to give an incredible taste. The texture of the bread was crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. The cabbage hard charred edges that brought a smokey flavor with a crunch to it. The calamari had a smokiness that came from being cooked over woodfire and a sourness that came from the preserved lemons and it was a delight to eat.
This restaurant has a distinct personality in that they use live-fire from wood to cook their food and you can taste it.

Everyone (from our server to the other people that brought our dishes) explained each dish clearly. You can tell everyone was trained well to be knowledgeable about each dish and what was in it and how it was made and the taste it brings. Everyone was extremely pleasant to interact with, were friendly, and seemed to like their job which made the interactions a delight!

Also, the way they scraped the crumbs off our table and folded our napkin after we got up from our chair to go to the bathroom reminded me of how the service is in Michelin one star restaurants we’ve been in.

If Michelin came to Savannah, this restaurant will definitely be mentioned either as a recommendation and has the potential to win a star.

We had a wonderful experience tonight thanks to our server, Mahryah! The open kitchen is beautiful and impeccably clean. We’ll definitely be trying the chef’s counter on our next visit. The entrées were thoughtfully coursed, letting us relax and fully enjoy the meal without having to think about timing. Each dish was absolutely delicious. If you’re looking for fresh, exciting flavors in Savannah, stop searching and make a reservation!

Wow! What a great experience, everything here was a 10/10 no complaints. We came with a party of 6 and pretty much tried the whole menu, all of it was perfect. Definitely try the sweet potatoes, mussels and of course the whole red snapper (best fish I’ve ever had.) The drinks were also fantastic and I can’t even express how amazing the service was. Our server Lily was so incredibly knowledgeable and was able to answer every question we had without skipping a beat. She was so confident and charismatic which is so impressive given we went on opening night.
GO TO FISHBAR!!!!!!!!! you won’t be disappointed

From the moment we walked in, the ambiance set the tone—stylish, warm, and inviting with just the right vibe. The service was truly outstanding by clay, attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming without ever feeling rushed.she was the sweetest!

Now the food—simply phenomenal. Every dish tasted fresh, perfectly seasoned, and beautifully presented. You can tell real care goes into both the ingredients and the execution. From the first bite to the last, it was a flawless experience. We tried variety of stuff oysters, sweet potatoes, roasted cabbage, flounder, ceviche everything was top notch!

This place has already set the bar high and is easily on its way to becoming a must-visit spot. Incredible food, impeccable service, and a wonderful atmosphere—can’t wait to come back! ✨

While visiting Savannah with a group of friends, we had a very serendipitous string of events lead us to this restaurant. We cancelled a previous reservation and took the plunge here for dinner.
What resulted was one of the most interesting and genuine culinary experiences I’ve ever had . Without even going into the wonderful design , lighting and atmosphere of this place … We were blown away with two things : the food and the people.
You can feel the love here. It permeates intensely from the dishes, the service and the chefs behind the counter. I have experienced this before in restaurants but almost never in a way that seems so palpable.
To get down to the nitty gritty the ceviche and crudo are dynamite starters . The diver scallop was so good I ordered another, the squid ink potatoes and grilled sweet potatoes were excellent and for entrees my wife and I shared the red snapper, a perfect coup de grace.
This place is part of a web of amazing restaurants in Savannah and it’s a major credit to the scene. They inspired us to revisit Savannah and actually wrote us a list of dozens of other places to try . The bottom line is , we will be back and will probably be lifelong fans of this restaurant and restaurant scene for the rest of our lives . Shout out to Andrew , Lilly, Victoria and Charlie for exuding passion and kindness that inspires.
I’m going to say it again , we will be back

My husband and I visited Savannah for New Year’s. We did not have reservations however we were at the door as they opened for a seat at the bar. The service was so friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the snails on a stick, and the trout. We ordered a bottle of wine also. It was fabulous. We would definitely recommend this new restaurant.

Truly one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. We got to sit at Chef’s Counter and watch all the food be prepared- witnessing the energy in the kitchen while the chefs worked together was magical! We got the shrimp, mussels, sweet potato, cabbage and the trout. Every dish had such a uniquely delicious flavor. Clay delivered impeccable service, giving excellent recommendations and wine pairings. 10/10 across the board (Bonus points for that sweet potato!)
