The “off-menu” fried fish sandwich was one of the best fish sandwiches I’ve ever had. Completely and deservedly ruined the McDonald’s Filet O-Fish for me which it riffs off of.

Definitely order a side of fries, which had a great balance between crispy and soft. They were underseasoned but we asked for salt.

The mignonette oysters were tiny but had unreal flavor: briny, salty, crunchy, and spicy.

The brazino with beurre blanc and white beans was tasty but not memorable like the other dishes. The skin could’ve been crispier and I would’ve loved more beurre blanc.

GF and DF fish and chips! Crispy and hot with a great crust. Very hard to find. I’ve only found 2 other places that serve gf/df fish and chips and one is in Florida. This one is a close contender to UK fish and chips. The restaurant is small and cozy. Be sure to make reservations (if they’re available). We popped in and put our name on the list. Heather was great and we really appreciated her. The area is walkable and is more upscale than other parts of 6th street. Within walking distance
to Cape Bottle Room. You could fit in a tasting while you wait for your table!

We randomly popped in before they opened on our 10-year anniversary, and it turned out to be an incredible experience! The host was exceptionally accommodating and managed to seat us at the raw bar, which was a highlight of our visit. Our server, Carolyn, was amazing—knowledgeable and attentive throughout our meal.

The entire staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable experience. Watching the chefs was a treat, and their recommendations were spot-on. We even followed the oyster shucker’s advice on which bar to visit next and ended up meeting some famous comedians we were in town to see!

I wish I could give the whole staff a 10/10. We’ll definitely be back the next time we’re in Austin!

Don’t eat fish.
Don’t eat octopus.
Absolutely avoid the crab roll.
Stay away from boring lobster dishes.
Just stop looking for seafood anywhere else but Fish Shop :)))

Seriously.

I had the pleasure of meeting Justin Huffman, and he is one of those rare humans who genuinely loves people. You can feel it instantly. I was lucky enough to see, up close, how much heart he puts into product quality. The way he receives fish deliveries… my God. Everything is absolutely top quality.
And just to be clear: no one is paying me for this review.

I have deep respect for chefs who build a culinary vision through pure passion. Here, every single dish is about quality and freshness. Justin comes from San Francisco, which shows in his professional, almost obsessive relationships with seafood suppliers. That level of sourcing discipline matters, and it shows on the plate.

I won’t get overly sentimental, but this place deserved a few words.

Anyone driven by passion, joy, and real love for what they do deserves recognition.

We came as a family.
To start: Soquerones & Pickled Peppers. Delicate, clean, beautifully balanced.
Immediately after, I had to order the Lobster Toast with
butter poached lobster tail and claw, kombu butter beurre blanc, Osetra caviar.
Ridiculous. Perfect seasoning, insanely soft texture, everything exactly where it should be.

My wife chose the Fish and Chips with Pacific rockfish.
And listen, I’ve eaten fish and chips many times in London, in many places.
What Justin serves here blew past my expectations. Light, delicately crispy batter.
You can taste the freshness of the oil.
The fish itself is soft, gentle, elegant.
Not your everyday cod or haddock. Pacific rockfish brings a depth and refinement I had never experienced in this dish before. Surprisingly clean and light.

And if someone at your table claims they don’t like fish, problem solved.
The wagyu quarter pounder beef burger handles that situation instantly.
How he cooks that meat, I didn’t ask. Apparently, it’s a secret. Honestly, ask him yourself if you’re lucky enough to catch Justin there.

Wonderful human.
Wonderful place.

I’m rooting for this spot and watching closely, because this is clearly just the beginning of his journey.

Cool For A Living
We finally made it to Fish Shop with a group of 4 for happy hour, and whatever expectations we had going in were exceeded right upon arrival. The shop is smaller than your average, but it made for a cozier feel when talking over dishes and drinks, likely adding a few points of favor to the insanely good shrimp rolls, spicy oyster tostadas and halibut crudo we kicked the meal off with. Mix in a few glasses of wine at HH pricing ✨ and the vibes were high. Great customer service throughout made sure our space was clean without being extra about it, and our server was knowledgeable about the offerings of the day which made it easy to partake. By the time we got to the escargot, calamari and fish sandwiches, we realized a part 2 was in order to work our way down the menu. Based off our first go, no notes! – CFAL

What a gem! Everything is amazing here! If Nicole is behind the bar, make sure you ask for a martini the way she likes it. Best cocktail I’ve had in ages, simple and perfect!

I dined here recently with a group of five friends, and unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing—especially because it involved a possible allergic reaction that was handled with little care or urgency.

We came across this place while walking along East 6th and decided to try it since it’s new. The space itself is small but cute, with nice ambient lighting, so our first impression was positive. As the night went on, however, things steadily declined.

The pricing versus portion sizes was shocking. While I understand seafood can be expensive, the portions were unreasonably small. A waitress even suggested that the group share entrées, which in hindsight was alarming because the entrée portions were barely enough for one person. Several people in my group ended up needing to eat again afterward.

One example was the lobster toast. In the photo posted, the four pieces shown were actually two separate orders placed on one plate without explanation. That plate alone cost $63. No one was told ahead of time that the orders would be combined, and no additional plate was offered. For the price, it felt more like an overpriced appetizer than an entrée.

Other dishes were similarly disappointing. The fish and chips were $26.75, and multiple people commented that the food lacked flavor and seasoning. One friend found her dish to be overly salty and had to bring it up herself, as the waitress never checked in to ask how the food was. While that dish was eventually removed from the check and one slice of dessert was offered for the table, there were six people dining, and the gesture did not come close to addressing the overall experience.

Service was a consistent issue throughout the night. Our waitress was absent for long periods of time while checking on surrounding tables. The group was seated at a very small high-top in the middle of the restaurant where it was difficult to move without bumping into someone else. My friends couldn’t help but notice that our table was the only one made up entirely of women of color, and the lack of attention made the experience feel discriminatory.

For me personally, the most concerning part of the evening happened after I ordered the crab roll. Shortly after eating it, I began feeling itchy and experienced a burning sensation on my lips. I do not have any known food allergies, so this was alarming. When this was brought to the waitress’s attention, there was little to no concern shown. There was no follow-up, no check-in, and no sense of urgency.

Because I wanted to get antihistamines as soon as possible, the group tried to close out quickly. However, it took an excessive amount of time just to receive the check and have our cards taken. Two friends ultimately had to leave the restaurant early to walk to Target and purchase over-the-counter medication while the rest of the group remained behind.

Overall, this experience was disappointing not only because of the overpriced food and poor service, but because of the lack of care shown when a health concern was raised. Dining out should feel safe and welcoming. Unfortunately, this did not.

I would not return and would not recommend this restaurant.

Iron out the wrinkles, get a bit more energy, and keep focusing on the good food and this will be a great spot. Manifesting 5 stars!

Irish chips amazing. Oysters (not the happy hour Gulf ones) were perfect. The halibut crudo FANTASTIC. Good happy hour drinks.

Everything was incredible! The toro, boquerones and the branzino were some of our favorites!

The clam chowder was yummy too! It had a unique little acidity that we loved!

Highly recommend this place!
