Went on a boat cruise as well, highly recommend it!
so they dont have waiters here they have menu carrier’s
When ordering you get told drinks HAVE TO be ordered at the bar so thats 2 transactions
Now come to the food where to start
Chips – excellently made
Onion rings – over fried , dripping of oil ( yes i know its deep fried but had diep fried onion rings before that was less oily its like it was fried then it was cooled in cold oil the oil is dripping off of the food)
Catch of the day (kabeljou) – fried to a crisp unimpressive tasteless oily and the batter tastes more like fish than the actual fish given that its supposed to have a delicate, mildly sweet flavor fun fact it did not
So from someone that is a local this is totally a let down to hear people rave about this place and frankly it was a LET DOWN²
Now I know why you pay before you get the food
” Had a Great lunch at Fish on the River in Port Shepstone! Perched on the banks of the Umzimkulu River, this spot serves up FRESH seafood with a side of STUNNING views . The food? TO DIE FOR – tried the grilled hake and it was perfection . Service is super friendly, and the vibe’s totally relaxed. Pro tip: grab a table by the river and enjoy the breeze . Highly recommend for a seafood fix on the South Coast! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️” ¹ ² ³
No waiters or waitresses either.
I was recommended the Seafood Platter for one, but it was honestly one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. Everything was a sloppy mess, and the hake was brown instead of white and flaky (see photos). For R199, I expected far better.
So disappointing — I left with a bitter taste in my mouth, and it wasn’t just from the food. Definitely won’t be back.
