Reviews
I got the meatball sub, and it was a pleasant surprise. The last time I had a meatball sub from a chain (I’m not sure if it was Firehouse or another place), it was mediocre—grainy and served on bread that has that gas-station/preservative taste to it. This time, the meatballs tasted higher quality, and the bread was toasted perfectly, which made a big difference.
While I still rank Which Wich higher for overall taste and quality, and a traditional deli much higher, this was a solid meal that would make me want to come back.
My only criticisms are that the store felt a bit cramped. When combined with the industrial decor, the space felt uninviting. Also, while the bread was toasted well, it’s still the type you’d expect from a chain sub shop.
I had an incredible experience with Will Villegas, the owner of Firehouse Subs. During an online order mix-up, Will went above and beyond to make things right. He handled the situation with professionalism, kindness, and genuine care — something you don’t see every day in customer service.
Not only did he quickly resolve the issue, but he also made sure I left completely satisfied and appreciated as a customer. His attention to detail and friendly attitude truly reflect what great leadership and customer service should look like.
The first time, I ordered in person and they did not put all the toppings on that I was expecting. I assumed I ordered in a confusing way and brushed it off as I was already home when I noticed.
The second time, I ordered 4 sandwiches online. 2 sandwiches were made incorrectly, 1 was just completely wrong (Italian instead of roast beef) and the other had several missing toppings. I told the staff and they apologized and said they would remake the sandwiches. They also said I could have a cookie, chip bag, or drink while I waited. I was clear that just the 2 sandwiches were wrong and tried to confirm what I expected to have remade, but they just said they got it. I felt like a waited a long time and turns out they remade all 4 of the sandwiches, instead of just the 2 that were incorrect. This was a nice gesture, but I ended up waiting even longer for them to make 4 sandwiches instead of 2. Then, of the 2 sandwiches that were originally incorrect, only 1 was correct the second time! That’s right, 1 sandwich was still incorrect after 2 tries! They had omitted the extra toppings that were clearly marked on the online order (and yes I double checked that I ordered correctly). Not sure if it is a training issue or if the order printouts from online orders are not complete.
The food is great and I love firehouse sandwiches, especially their GF options. But after these experiences I will take the extra time to go to the 64th and Ward location who has always gotten my order right. I will not return to this location.
No calls-outs in the back, no “order up!”, just silent sandwich construction like it was a covert mission. I’m still not sure if he ever made my order or if it just appeared out of thin air.
The sub itself? Tastes fine, but my trust in Gojo’s gluten free game? Toasted (regular bread toasted). Two stars because the pickles slapped, but please, someone give that man a training manual and a greeting script.
