I would Highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a nice dinning experience.
I stopped in for dinner after a long drive and had skipped lunch in the interest of reaching my destination a little quicker. I was hungry and excited to try someplace new (yes, they are a chain; no, I had never been to one of their restaurants) and different. I’m glad I chose this place!
I started with a Knob Creek Rye. Good pour and reasonable price point. That was followed by a hot loaf of bread with some really creamy butter. I probably would have eaten the whole thing had my entree not turned up.
For dinner, I ordered their salmon. On the menu, it is described as such: Basted with Key lime butter, fresh vegetables, choice of side. I honestly think they are drastically underselling this dish, possibly because a lot of the menu is at a higher price point. That said, the salmon they served me was perfectly cooked, beautifully moist, flavorful and generally one of the best things I’ve eaten in the last year or so. I loved absolutely everything about how they prepared the fish. I ordered their spiced pecan green beans for my side and it was delicious as well. We make green beans at home pretty frequently so I’ll be googling to figure out how they did the slight char on their version.
Now, the bread was the superstar: fresh, with butter, and just perfect. The mushrooms were also a pleasant surprise, cooked just right and full of flavor. But then we hit a few bumps. The veggie plate’s earth grains were undercooked and crunchy, the carrots were a mix of mushy, hard, and burnt pieces, not chared burn sticky glaze and bitter and the mashed potatoes were pretty bland despite the Parmesan. The tater tots felt like they came straight out of a generic frozen bag, nothing special there.
The Chilean sea bass took a while to arrive and had a fishy smell, so it definitely wasn’t the freshest. For the price, the portion was a bit small. It was cooked fine, but it just didn’t feel worth the wait.
In the end, the bread and mushrooms were the highlights, and the rest was a bit of a rollercoaster. Our waitress was fantastic, and the bar had a great vibe and collection. So come for the atmosphere, enjoy the amazing bread, and just take the rest in stride.
The cider slaw could be better as it was very dry like eating cabbage plain.
The deviled eggs….presentation was good tasted okay but not not worth the price.
The employee’s of the establishment were the best part of dining there. Kudos to the management there as you can see they have pride in there establishment. Sadly this will not be an establishment I’ll return to.
The food was excellent, the portions were good and the service and atmosphere were both great. Everything food wise was on target.
The only downside is the price. Dinner for two came to about $100 for two meals and three alcoholic drinks, no appetizers or desserts. So it’s definitely more of a “nice dinner out” spot than a casual weeknight place. Overall though, the quality backs it up. If you’re looking for an excellent meal and don’t mind paying a little extra, it’s worth it.
