I had high hopes for the 3-course meal at Firebirds, especially for a special occasion—our 7-year anniversary. Unfortunately, the experience fell short in several key areas.
Food:
The tortilla soup was the highlight of the meal—rich, flavorful, and comforting. Sadly, it was downhill from there. I ordered the grilled sirloin medium rare, but it arrived medium to medium well. Dry, tough, and not enjoyable. Industry best practices suggest servers check in within two minutes of a steak being served or after a couple bites. Ours didn’t return until I had nearly finished the steak and sides. I asked her to confirm the ticket temp, and she had correctly entered medium rare. I would’ve sent it back, but I was on a tight schedule with someone covering for me at work.
Dessert was the “crème brûlée cheesecake,” which is a misleading name. It’s just cheesecake with slightly browned sugar. A true crème brûlée has a custard base with a higher egg-to-dairy ratio and a crisp, glass-like sugar crust that cracks audibly. This dessert had none of that—no custard texture, no crackable sugar top, and no crème brûlée flavor. Just call it cheesecake.
Service & Atmosphere:
I made a reservation online and noted it was our anniversary. Not one staff member acknowledged it—not even a simple “Happy Anniversary.” That small gesture would’ve gone a long way. I also requested seating near the fireplace and was placed near the back wall instead. The front-of-house manager never stopped by, which might’ve been for the best given my disappointment.
Value:
At $39.95 for a 3-course meal, I expected more than just good soup. The rest of the meal and the overall experience didn’t justify the price. At least the dessert looked nice I guess? LOL
Final Thoughts:
Firebirds missed a great opportunity to make a special night memorable. I won’t be returning to this location for any future meal service.
The appetizers were exceptional, and I would gladly order them again. The main courses were outstanding; if you dine here, I highly recommend the “Big Daddy Cake.” The raspberry sauce, served with a scoop of ice cream, is the perfect complement.
Atmosphere is superb. Gas fireplace inviting and warm cold weather. Immaculate.
Decor is awesome. Stone wood leather.
Now for what didn’t go so well: The water was horrible. It tasted like it came from the bottom of a rusty bucket and their tea was made with the same water. You could tell that most of the staff didn’t get along. The only happy chatter was the staff with the customers. The tension was so thick it was uncomfortable. The front staff barely greeted us and just told us to sit wherever we wanted to and went back to their phones. The bathrooms needed attention badly enough that I cleaned up for them a little bit. Maybe they were all just having a really bad night.
