Reviews
The pasta dishes seem to be more regional than just Napolentean/Roman what I normally see in American Italian restaurants. The noodles were good even the next day. Get what you like, they were all done well.
Hard to tell but very huge basket of calamari. Best for 5 or more people to share! I also liked their free bread and mushroom main, though we got it as an appetizer.
Service wasn’t slow for us like some reviews mention. Quaint ambiance with some live piano.
If you’re searching for authentic Italian cuisine, fresh pasta, and a memorable dining atmosphere, this is the place to go!
We started with the Bruschetta, which was outstanding—perfectly toasted bread topped with ripe tomatoes, fresh basil, and high-quality olive oil that tasted straight from Italy. For our main course, the Tagliatelle was the star of the night. The pasta was fresh, handmade, and cooked to perfection, with a rich and flavorful sauce that made every bite exceptional. We ended with an Affogato, and it was the perfect finish—creamy gelato “drowned” in bold espresso. Simple, classic, and delicious.
The ambiance is warm, charming, and full of history. A live singer took requests and performed Italian classics (including “That’s Amore”), which made the entire evening feel magical—like being transported to a trattoria in Italy.
Service was fantastic from start to finish—friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu and wine pairings.
If you’re looking for authentic Italian food, fresh pasta, terrific service, and a unique historical dining experience, you must visit Fior d’Italia. Perfect for date night, celebrations, or anyone who loves classic Italian done right!

Waiter
———–
Came once in awhile. Other waiters had to help.
He held the credit card.. I had to get up and walk around to the register to look for it.
The bartender had to help look for the waiter. He eventually came back to us.
He made us feel as though he took the card to make a copy somewhere so I’ll check the purchases. He then said we can’t take any bread home because he’s not allowed where on Columbus street, every restaurant gives bread to take home.

We visited this restaurant for lunch after seeing an appetizer photo on Google Maps that looked amazing. When we asked the waitress which menu item it was, she told us that dish was no longer available. We asked which appetizer was similar, and she showed a few options. We chose the Burrata con Pomodori Basilico e Olio and placed our main course orders.
A few minutes later, she kindly returned and said the chef would make something like the photo we had seen. We were impressed by their willingness to accommodate us — it felt like great service.
The food was good, but when we got the bill, there were two extra appetizers added, totaling about $70. When we questioned it, the waitress insisted we had ordered three appetizers and started arguing instead of calmly clarifying. She claimed we should have known the items weren’t complimentary. After a frustrating exchange, she apologized only to close out the payment.
Later, we noticed that other reviewers have had similar experiences — the restaurant sometimes offers to make something “off-menu” without mentioning the price, then charges unexpectedly high amounts.
If you visit, make sure prices are confirmed before accepting any off-menu offers and double-check your bill.
Service was friendly and attentive, and the wine list had plenty of great pairings. Prices are fair for the quality, history, and ambience you get here.
If you’re looking for authentic Italian with a touch of San Francisco history, Fior d’Italia is a must-visit.
