First time been here, not many tables but have a good casual atmosphere. We had lunch there, food are delicious, you can see that they use fresh seafood, and only prime part of it. They are ambitious and they are indeed the best modern English seafood restaurant in Cambridge. Good location as well – mill road is international and intellectual

Amazing food and wine at Fin Boys, Cambridge

We had an amazing dining experience at Fin Boys. The food and wine were outstanding throughout the lunch.

For starters, we had the pan-seared Orkney scallops and the otoro with porcini cream. Both were excellent — the tuna just melted in your mouth with a beautiful combination of flavours, and the scallops were perfectly cooked.

Next came the homemade pasta, which was great and cooked to perfection, though it was probably our least favourite dish of the night simply because the others were so exceptional.

For mains, we tried the turbot en croûte and the stone bass. Both dishes were superb. The fish was perfectly cooked, with rich, balanced flavours that really stood out.

We finished with the Basque cheesecake, which was a fantastic dessert, spot on in both texture and taste.

We also tried several glasses of wine by the glass, and all were well above average for Cambridge, clearly curated with care and a real highlight of the meal. Only point is that the reds were less carefully chosen which I guess it can be expected from a fish place.

It is on the pricier side, but the quality of both the food and the wine justifies it. That said, it would be great if the restaurant offered a set or combination menu using their regular dishes to make it a bit more accessible.

Overall, a great experience and a must-visit spot for anyone craving exceptional fish dishes in Cambridge.

I had monkish and scallops for lunch here which were fantastic. Decided to try the tasting menu the next week. It started with crab soup which was served boiling hot and burnt my tongue. I was surprised that more care was not taken to ensure that the soup comes out at a decent temperature given the price point of the tasting menu. Prawn toast and oyster was good. I found the tuna tostada overwhelmingly spicy and struggled to finish it. I told a member of staff when I was asked how the dish was, he shrugged and insisted it was not that spicy and that is how Mexican food should be. He also said it was his favourite item in the menu, ‍♀️ fair enough. The torched trout was wonderful and probably my favourite item of the night. The smoked eel on rice was disappointing as the eel was over seasoned and the rice was undercooked as it was hard at the center. Comparing this to other eel-on-rice type of dishes such as Hitsumabushis, I think this fell short of expectations. The stone bass was fresh and delicious, I loved the sauce it came with as well. Dessert was great but not mind blowing. The open omakase/bar-style of seating is not everyone’s cup of tea but I personally love it as it offered a really unique experience. Overall there were hits and misses but I would not mind giving it another try. Thank you Fin boys for the experience!

Second time at Fin Boys and it didn’t disappoint! In fact thing it was possibly even better than last time – full of flavour, varied and inventive! Great wines and excellent service. We ate almost everything on the menu and it was all superb and perfectly cooked. Can’t wait to come back! Yum!

Fabulous cooking again. The fish cookery is excellent. Prawn Toast is a must-try. Good, timely service. The main cooking is done in the open bar area, great to watch.

We had a First Class taster menu tonight. Every course was absolutely delicious. Fresh, interesting courses to remember. The sourdough crumpet with black butter, prawn toast and lobster bisque were stand out but every course was prepared with care and consideration. The fish courses were cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth. The staff were wonderful and friendly and couldn’t have been more helpful. One of the best taster menus we’ve had in a long time and would definitely return. You absolutely won’t be disappointed!

Me and my partner had the oysters from Fin Boys at Mill Road Winter Fair on Saturday and developed food poisoning symptoms by Monday morning.

Update: we only ate at 2 places during winter fair where one was cooked food and second raw oysters at Fin Boys. Our symptoms match Norovirus which you can get from seafood apparently and it knocked us out completely today. We would appreciate simple apologies and being bit less blunt from the restaurant side please.

I don’t have photos of the food sadly but we went for Saturday lunch and had a fantastic experience. For starters we had the crab croquettes, very tasty, but the real highlight were the mains – I had a fantastic pan-fried bass and my partner had the halibut. For the desert, highly recommend their Basque cheesecake – it is airy and light, not at all heavy. Would definitely come back!

What a place! We’ve been to Fin Boys a couple of times now. On our first visit, we went for the tasting menu—fantastic. It’s a great way to try a bit of everything, mostly cold dishes, all packed with flavor. The second time, we ordered à la carte and had the bass and gurnard—both perfectly cooked.

Jonathan was incredibly helpful with the drinks and recommended the Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc + Viognier blend from Napa Valley. It was spot on. If you’re unsure about wine, just go with that—seriously, you won’t regret it.

The food and service are top-notch. If you sit at the bar, you can watch the team prepare everything right in front of you. Fin Boys is perfect for a lunch or dinner date. You’re well taken care of and you leave full and happy.

We went there for a birthday and did the tasting menu. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was cosy and the food and drink selection was immaculate. One of the best fish restaurants I’ve eaten at in a long time.
