Vincent DePhilippis Born in New York NY, raised in Naples Italy returned to New York City at the age of 18. Vincent DePhilippis and Madeleine Manfredi from Nimes France met in New York NY (Mamma and Papa) married in 1925, then settled in Westchester Pennsylvania. Then moved to San Diego in 1947 where they opened an Italian market named Cash & Carry Italian foods on India Street in San Diego. 1950 was the beginning of what has become a very successful line of family restaurants that are today know as Filippi’s Pizza Grottos that are owned and operated by original family members of the founders. The DePhilippis family would like to welcome you and your family to visit our restaurants to enjoy our traditional old Italian family recipes.

First, I might come across as not liking it. I’m Italian so reviewing Italian food is difficult for me not to be a harsh critic.
It was delivered to my office and the spaghetti was a bit bland. Italian sausage didn’t taste like real Italian sausage. The bread? AMAZING!!! Really good toasted bread. The tiramisu?
That was delicious. I would definitely recommend adding the tiramisu.

Only thing there is to say…this place is amazing. Food is Great. Pizza is The Best. Their Pasta is amazing and portions are big enough to share. My Beautiful Wife eat here every Friday Night. ThevStaff is very friendly and work very hard to make you feel like Family. Ahni is Our favorite Server. She is Amazing and very kind.

The pizza was amazing and big so come hungry I could only eat one piece. The only reason I didn’t give the food a 5 star is because the pizza had to much cheese one slice weights at least one pound each. The staff was very friendly I will definitely be coming back but next light cheese please.

The food is great as usual! The service was excellent! We were a party of 13, she was great at choosing enough to feed all of us. Pizza, ravioli, lasagna, spaghetti was enough to make everyone happy!!

The minute you walk in you are greeted by these darling young ladies and we were seated right away. This was our first time at this location and the food was excellent but I will say our server didn’t have much in the personality department. The only other thing we would have enjoyed was to hear some Italian music to enhance the ambience. Will we come back?! Most definitely! Enjoy!!

I ordered a regular cheese pizza, and this pizza had an enormous amount of cheese, almost to the point that it’s overwhelming. It made me realize that they must be using very cheap cheese, and because of that, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Thank you!

We’ve been eating at Filippi’s restaurants for over 50 years. Pacific Beach, El Cajon, Riverside, Temecula–some are no longer there, but they’ve been a staple. We live in Texas now, but every time we visit southern California, we make sure to make at least one stop at Filippi’s. No discussion. It’s a MUST. This visit didn’t disappoint. Our favorites are the cheese pizza and the lasagna. And of course the fresh bread. The only disappointment we’ve ever had is the fact that you can’t really eat as much as you’d like. But that’s okay, because Leftover Pizza and Lasagna is JUST AS GOOD!!! Sure would love to have a Filippi’s in the Dallas area, but I guess we’ll just have to continue to visit our old stomping grounds to get our favorite pizza!

I really enjoyed an Eggplant Parmesan Hero sandwich I picked up this week for lunch. It was large. I ate half as soon as I got home and saved the rest for another meal. Warmed up in the oven it was as good as the first time. The fillings were generous and tasty. Plenty of cheese. Good quality crusty bread. I thought the price was reasonable for the size and quality.
Filippi’s is a retro old-school place which hasn’t been redecorated in years. Good. It’s a refreshing change from all the cookie-cutter strip mall places. Wait staff was pleasant and helpful. I’ll definitely be back to try other things.

First time trying Fillippi’s after try to get here for a long time. I have to say i was disappointed. We tried the dinner special which is a ton of food and at a great price so its a family favorite. The quality of the food is good . I enjoyed the salad , the spaghetti and and lasagna is really good its just not something I go out for very often, but i was really disappointed with the pizza which was very surprising because I don’t think I like most pizza’s. When I bit into the pizza all I tasted was flour. Because of the fact that I don’t eat spaghetti and lasagna out often I love pizza but not there unfortunately don’t think I will be back.
