I had an exceptional experience at FIKA thanks to our server, Mel, who delivered some of the warmest and most attentive service I’ve had in a long time. Mel was fantastic, super friendly, on top of everything, and made me feel totally at home.
Onto the food, I ordered soup of the day (I didn’t catch the name, but it had chicken, lentils, and maybe mushroom) and Mel described it perfectly. It was rich, comforting, and full of flavor. The Swedish meatballs were classic and delicious, and the cardamom bread pudding was absolutely incredible, warm, fragrant, and the perfect touch of sweetness with the whipped cream.
Mel’s service elevated the entire experience. Friendly, efficient, and thoughtful. I definitely would return if I’m back in Minneapolis. Highly recommend!

We just stopped in for pastries, not a full meal. We were asked to sit in an adjoining room that was bright white with spaced out tables and seats. It had its own water dispenser. The cinnamon bun and cardamom bun were fantastic–still warm, even! My husband had a coffee as well and said it was good.

Stopped by for a coffee before our museum tour. Then afterwards wanted to grab some treats for my daughter in law in the hospital w baby in nicu! I did not catch the sales associates name, but he immediately knew I wanted the selections to be terrific… he even shared his preemie birth story and it was so sweet and encouraging! When I brought the box of treats to MHealth, and we opened to look at the tomte cookie and bun, somehow the treats multiplied and I was gifted some extra bakes for all of us in the nicu w baby! Thank you, Fika, for staff that listens and chose to surprise our day so sweetly.

A small cafe at the American Swedish Institute. The food and service were great! Try the Swedish Coffee! The meatballs were scrumptious! The Cadamom Bread Pudding was to die for. A slice of Pumpkin Seed Bread was yummy as well.

If you are looking for a cafe experience in a museum this is the place. Its bright, airy and peaceful. The option for wine or coffee or Italian soda is inclusive for all in our party. The food was not only yummy but artistically plated and “just right” servings. The egg & harvarti was excellent. The swedish meatballs were soooo good. The vegan version of the butter salad was just right. We tried the rye & brioche breads. Yummy but didnt realize they came toasted with butter. The very best part of the lunch was the bread pudding. It is scrumptious. Like a warm, sweet hug while sitting in the sun on a cool day. Perfect. Got pastries to go & the thin ginger cookies (cant recall the Swedish word) are quite lovely. The only not 5 star was the coffee…bit too sour after taste. The service was pretty good (waitress didnt seem to happy), all the staff were friendly and helpful. The bathrooms were so clean, wow! We will definitely be back!!

I had the pleasure of arranging a special brunch for my mother and decided this was the perfect place. We have a strong Scandinavian background, which we relished growing up. I’d been here multiple times before with family and friends, so I knew firsthand how lovely the building and grounds were. As well the food is consistently exceptional.

I’ve had the apple beet salad multiple times – I highly recommend it. And I always get a scone or two. It makes a difference if you catch them fresh out of the oven when they first open. My favorite is the White Chocolate Chip Raspberry scone, but the Apricot Chamomile Lemon Zest scones are good, too. Go for any of the berry versions if you can get them on the day of your visit. The bread pudding and cake are very “Swedish” and yummy. My sister likes the ginger cookies and takes some home.

The creamed wild rice super is nicely complemented with their in-house baked rye bread. The Gravlax, and Swedish Meatballs on the menu are some of the very best you can eat. This last time, I ordered the Whitefish Cake for only $20. It comes with Wild Rice, fantastic lemon creamed leeks, fresh spinach and tossed Herb Crumbs.

We had an excellent server who was timely with food and drinks as well as providing great suggestions. The interior light airy atmosphere is super with natural lighting from the big windows. It is also pleasant to view the garden.

We also like the related gift shop and always buy something.

No problem with parking, they have a huge parking lot. Also, it is easy access for people in wheelchairs to drive right up to the front door. No steps. It makes for a perfect outing along with touring the mansion.

Wanted a taste of Scandinavia before I left Minneapolis and FIKA did not disappoint! They made sure to rush my order when they knew I had a flight to make — attentive and kind service in a beautiful setting. The attention to detail and freshness of the Skagen was beautiful, and although I’m not typically an espresso martini girl, this was the best I’ve ever had!

Of primary note is that this is a museum cafe. Also noteworthy is that we arrived on a holiday weekend at prime lunch time. With these factors in mind, that both the food and service was as great as it was came as a surprise to me. A concise, deftly prepared menu of very fresh, healthy fare was happy to be ate by my face. Our server was casual, informative, efficient, and attentive. If I were to gripe it would be to note that the back room we were seated in felt more like a lecture room than a restaurant (which perhaps it is off-season?) and the dining room was worse for wear what with all the families dining there. Kinda filthy, really. That said, it’s explicable given museum cafe at high tide. In any case, I will be back for the fare.

Incredibly delicious food! I highly recommend checking out Fika. I have visited many times for lunch or brunch and I’m always so impressed by their food.

The menu rotates a bit with the seasons, but you can always find Swedish meatballs and gravlax available—both of which are fantastic. On my most recent visit I was able to try the seasonal “Kroppkakor,” which are veal and potato dumplings. These were so good and I highly recommend trying them if they’re on the menu! Additionally, their cocktails and coffee are also wonderful. I always get their “Bloody Swede” whenever I visit and it is genuinely one of the best Bloody Marys I’ve ever had, the beet and aquavit just make for an incredible drink.

Beyond the food and drink, the location inside the American Swedish Institute is great—if there is ever a long wait to be seated, you can put your name in and explore the museum and they will text you when your table is ready. However, the only times I’ve ever had to wait long for a table have been during the Christmas season. The staff are very nice and the atmosphere is great. It’s a super clean and trendy space which feels very modern Scandinavian. At this point I have brought most of my family here whenever they are visiting from out of town and they all love it. Overall a great place and I will certainly keep coming back regularly for those meatballs!
